14. My first CS DDR (That I still have) was DDRMAX2, and my first AC DDR I played was SN2. Discovered stepmania after that.

I'm 24, and kind of the median age for my local group. 18 seems to be the lower end, with players breaking into their mid-thirties.

I started when I was 11 or 12, with CS Max. Most of the locals older than me remember the first arcade machine to come to Utah, and remember playing on an imported 4th Mix (I think it was a 4th mix)

That said, it seems like I'm one of the youngest local players who's still 'oldschool' (As in, have been playing since DDR was still the big boy in town) (EDIT: I promise I don't mean that to sound pretentious. Srsly) Everyone else seems to have started with ITG, or first became proficient with ITG. One guy is 23, and doesn't really know very many DDR songs.

EDIT: To bring it back around to the op: There are a lot of people who play this game as adults. Maybe people who walk by think something about that, maybe they don't. I've thought about my age regarding my continued play (especially when it seems like the only other arcade patrons are a pack of pre-teens that have been let loose to ravage the building) and sometimes feel like I'm some kind of nerd stereotype. Like I should feel weird or embarrassed. So I see why someone might be a little worried about playing DDR as an adult.

However if I think about that logic, it seems like the only thing worrying me is other people's perception. And if I was worried about how the average person saw me, I would have never started playing DDR at the arcade to begin with. If someone gets mad because I'm having some fun as an adult, then good. I'm glad they're mad.

I'm 18. I was introduced to DDR when my parents got DDRMax 2 CS for me when I was really little (8 or 9), and I started really getting into it as Supernova came out. Sometimes my parents would drive me out to a Supernova arcade, where people would be amused at a tiny 4 foot tall kid frantically stomping arrows on the pad (I can't imagine how I must've looked, haha).

I started drifting away from it as Supernova 2 AC/CS came out, and I stopped completely around 2008. Then, just a few months ago, I realized I needed to get myself to exercise somehow, and I rediscovered it and started playing again. Now I play all the PS2 console games + go to the X3 at the arcade near me. I still see a fair amount of people playing on the X3 cab whenever I go there, and it's really nice to see that the scene isn't as dead as I thought. Most people I see tend to be in their mid 20s, so I'm definitely on the younger side. I saw a couple of girls around my age trying it out, but they were a bit hesitant to do more than a few songs. I think it's probably because they were intimidated by seeing a couple of the experts play it and they didn't want to look bad. It's sad, because I feel like all newcomers in general are going to feel that way and be too scared to play in public Confused

I'm 17.

I was introduced to DDR back in 2006, after seeing a machine in a movie, and in a local arcade soon after. But I did not get into the grind until a couple of years back. I saw countless videos of people beasting at ITG, and I always wanted to set foot onto an ITG machine. But I was stuck with a soft pad and the PS2 version of ITG1.

Finally, two years ago, while on a family vacation in Arizona, I convinced my parents to stop at a bowling alley just so I could try out ITG2. I walked into the empty place, and there was an ITG2 dedicab, sitting in all it's glory. I played for like over an hour straight, and I've been hooked on it ever since.

It would be like eight months before I would acquire my own ITG2 dedicab. And the scores and achievements I've made on the machine are among the things that make me the player that I am today.

Turned 27 last month. I forget when I first started playing, like 2004 or something whatever, it's been a while.
Speed-wise i'm fairly certain i've hit my peak, working on improving footwork (it can always be improved).

I'm 15 and I just recently cleared MAX 300Heavy. I started at around 6-7. My first CS game was DDRMAX on the PS2. My first AC I played was SN2. I play whenever I'm bored and at Dave and Buster's I still get stares...

I notice most dance game players in my area are in their mid to late twenties, likely because DDR was popular around the time they were in high school. I also noticed that there are a lot of younger (in comparison) pump players now who have never played DDR, which amazes me, because for the longest time I just figured most people thought of pump as DDR variant because DDR was so ubiquitous a decade ago, but I guess the younger players never really lived through that. Oh and I'm almost 19, so even I was introduced to the game at the tail end of its heyday.

Started playing DDR in 2004, when I was 11, on a AC DDRMax2. Got DDR that winter for Christmas, CS DDRMax2. Still play it at 22. I notice people in their 20s playing DDR. Casual players range hardcore. I have a DDR machine in an arcade and watch people play it. Watched a 5 year old and 50 year old play it in the same day. Though the 50 year old played it again.

As for PIU, the normal people I see playing that would be teenagers to preteens. However PIU is hella unpopular in my area.

Here in Puerto Rico, I don't see many dedicated DDR players of my age. As a 17 year old, the best I can do is get A's on 13-footers and AA's on most songs 10-foot and below. I'm probably so into DDR because my older brother, now 21, was an ITG regular and had StepMania on the computer, which I slowly developed skills in. Most dedicated DDR players you see here are 20-30 years old. I feel that there's never as many crowded cabinets here because the games that you see most often here are DDR EXTREME and SuperNOVA, not a lot of newer games.

On San Patricio Plaza they have a good DDR X3 vs. 2ndMIX though, converted from an older cabinet, and last I went there was a good batch of 20 to mid-20 year old people hogging up the machine. My first time playing an X3 vs. 2ndMIX machine and I was so dumb to just try 2ndMIX mode without the maniac code. I had to leave before getting to try X3 because of the line. Dead

The first real DDR game I played was EXTREME2 on PS2, which I played at my cousins. First AC game was DDRMAX, but it's a very faded memory and I don't remember playing any non EXTREME/SuperNOVA/X3 cabinet besides that.

I played that same machine! It was in pretty good condition. I poured about $15 into that thing. It was so much fun!
What is the maniac code again? When I went to play it on 2ndMIX I forgot and had to suck it up and play on another Annoyed

On the original 2ndMIX game, it was LeftLeftLeftRightRightRightLeftRight, it's probably the same there. I'll try it next time I go. Big Grin
