^That helps but it doesn't totally fix it.
Bad blood only has 48 measures but the Challenge chart has 57 so it goes on for a while after the song ends.

Similarly Bills only has 118 measures but the challenge chart goes to 124, again it continues on after the song ends.

The charts are designed with SM5 features in mind, namely split timing. You'll have to either delete the problem-causing charts or move the song to an SM5 install, where it'll run properly.

Well, even the OP stated that these were optimized for SM5, so if there are problems in other versions of stepmania, that should not be his concern. Sure, that would be awesome if everything in SM5 works flawlessly in oITG, but it is what it is. I wish the Gay4Gimmix packs worked in SM5, but that is why I use oITG for those packs, and SM5 for this pack (among others)

Anywho, is it too late for requests?

The description says that it also works in other versions of StepMania. It would be great to have the .ssc files just as they are and fix the .sm files.

- OPTIMISED FOR STEPMANIA 5 (THOUGH 100% COMPATIBLE WITH 3.9, 3.9+ AND OPENITG!)
- .OGG SONGFILES, READY FOR R21! (UM, HECK YEAH!)

But unless he fixed the .sm files it is not 100% compatible with 3.9, 3.9+, oITG, or R21.

Also there are a few songs that need volumes normalized, they are too quiet.

The kids at my community center love your work, Ben!
These are the songs they listen to on the school bus, in the car, and at home. They work wonders getting kids interested in Stepmania. Thanks for spending the time to make them!

First of all I never claimed that the problem was the OPs concern, I simply stated factually what problems I was experiencing. My goal was to inform others who might be experiencing similar problems and to work out a solution MYSELF with who ever else was interested.

Second of all, as hellraiser pointed out the OP did claim "100% compatible" with OpenITG and older versions of SM, which it seems is not the case.

I know I personally love the fact that Ben makes these packs, it's great to have fresh and modern music to play, even if they don't support OpenITG the work that went into them is still very appreciated. Maybe I'm wrong but I would think there if there problems or bugs with them he'd want to know about it.

So far there seems to be two problems that need to be fixed for 100% compatibility outside of SM5
1. the videos are encoded in h264 which is not fully supported outside of SM5
2. the timing is incorrect in the challenge level charts (maybe others? I don't know I haven't played them all) in the .SM files which causes the step charts to run on beyond the end of the music.

I've fixed #1 myself, and for #2 Ive just trimmed off the end of the step charts (though a better solution is likely available)

Aww thanks I hope they're serving you well. The game and content are infinitely more important the input device should simply be overlooked in a perfect world, so my goal is that people just enjoy playing dance games without any regard to the dance pad, it should just simply work all the time, but content creators like Ben Speirs are what make dance games soo damn good.

Hey guys! I am not dead!

Sorry for going AWOL, had some ahem, very personal problems to deal with but I have returned and oh boy do I have some great ideas for simfiles! Been keeping a close eye on the charts and know what you're all no doubt clamoring for!

Keep your eyes peeled!

Thanks for all the comments too, really means a lot to see people enjoying these files! As for Bad Blood Challenge yeah aha, I meant that to be a bit of an unfair one! What I should have done is give it a normal Challenge chart and made the current one an Another.. maybe I'll do a switcharound when I get around to finishing and compiling the 'final' pack aha. Otherwise um.. CMod perhaps!!

Right so I've kind of gotten my bearings and am ready to start this up again. Lemme just address a few things and get some feedback about what should be prioritised!

First of all, my claim of 100% compatibility in other versions of SM outside of 5; clearly, that was wrong haha! It seems warps and scroll speed trickery is fine, split bpms are definitely not. SO, would you guys like to see the Challenge charts with unique SM5 gimmicks as Another charts and recreate/re-step the Challenge charts to contain zero gimmicks? Is this something you feel would be worth prioritising over new songs? This would mean I'd also have to re-encode the videos to be .AVI files I presume but I fear I'd lose a significant chunk of quality. I'm torn!

I'm also aware I doubled the BPM of Bills, and the latter part of Bad Blood at least as far as the Challenge chart is concerned aha, it's something I don't think I'll change. Bills would be an absolute cluster of notes, and to be honest I think the double BPM actually suits the song quite well!

OKAY, FOUR NEW TRACKS NOW AVAILABLE!

Thank you so much for this new pack. I love the cover of "What Do You Mean" by Chvrches.

Hahaha thank you jason! Hope to keep impressing!

And hey DJ! I fell in love with it too aha, glad to know you've enjoyed it! As for those song choices, it's rare I give anything away but Peanut Butter Jelly and How Deep Is Your Love are definitely coming! As for Ghost Town, it was on my to-do list but I don't think I'll be able to get a good cut of it, there's just so much quiet downtime the first minute, but I'll see at some point aha.

Clues for the next song! Will be released in 24 hours; see if you can guess from these clues!

#1: This artist already has one song in this pack.
#2: Recently appeared on a UK chat show to perform this song.
#3: Heavy use of saxophone and in swing timing. (12ths)
#4: Music video was filmed in various locations, including Dublin, Toronto and Tokyo.

Anybody got it figured out?!

Oh wow, bless you for saying that and wanting to donate, never ever expected that aha. I have always felt a lil bad about putting up donation links and stuff because hey, I don't expect it and it's not why I make all this stuff, I do it for fun and to hopefully give the community a little bit of joy aha, but if anyone did wanna throw me £1 or something it covers the cost for when I purchase music specifically to step when I struggle to find a usable copy online aha.

PayPal: benspeirs@hotmail.co.uk

And obviously if anybody did do this, and I don't expect anybody to, I can't thank you enough aha, PM me and I'll prioritise a request of yours or something!

/sweatdrop

IN OTHER NEWS working on 2 new tracks today, both from 2015, one mentioned on this very page, hopefully I'll have them finished up tonight but if not, tomorrow!!

Other than your simfiles, another thing that you do really well is that you listen to the people and their suggestions, but I have to be honest with you. This applies to everyone, and not just you, but you will not make everyone happy. If I can offer some advice, which you can take it or leave it, you should stick with what you started out at, meaning that when you wanted a pack to work best with SM5, you should stick with that objective. By doing that, you will save yourself a headache. You are already putting out a big effort already, but to make everyone happy, you would have to make all files work perfectly on all versions of stepmania, create HD and SD copies of your videos, create different audio qualities of your music files, have sm files with classic/ITG and X ratings, create a couple of more edits in each file so that you can cater to the people that want to play a super easy challenge stepchart and a superhard challenge stepchart, make doubles/half-doubles/couples/pump/technomotion charts, and I could go on, and still, some people would still complain about something. I think you should take everyone's advice with a grain of salt (mine too if you feel that way) and stick to what you think is best.

Hey guys! I think I will stick to my guns and make this a SM5 themed pack and when I'm finished I might go back and do a safe version, but yes I'll focus on the new right now!!

...Which I promised today didn't I.. whoops. Sorry guys, Mario Maker happened.. tomorrow, 100%! At least 2 new songs coming! AT LEAST! You can bet your life on it. Yes, that was a clue..!

My proposal would be to have the .SM file and .SSC files be DIFFERENT rather than making entire different simfiles. Have the .SSC without any SM5 features which will mean slightly different charts.

As for Bills, it feels wrong without 1/12th notes, tried it on pad a few days ago and I wasn't feeling it in many parts.

You could also do something like upload the .avi video and all the stuff normally, then in custom .zip upload the complete simfile, then anyone that downloads can grab the .avi file if they needed it, but the higher quality .mpg will be default when downloading, just a suggestion. For instance right now you add the jacket and banner outside of the custom .zip, just add in the .avi file as well and that would suffice, then in the .SM file change the .mpg to .avi, also any parts where you have CrossFade-Faster, yeah that crashes older versions, so in the .SM file keep that in mind.

Awesome work, the sync on these seems much better than your older files, I haven't noticed any song-cut errors, bravo.

I might just do that Hellrazor. I'll grab myself a copy of oITG or 3.9 and get them working like that, if it means slightly different charts then so be it! And yeah the default being the .mp3 but a .avi being available sounds like a plan too. I'll have to finish off the whole thing first and then edit later but yeah, January 1st 2016 I'll start work on this!

Thanks for your comments on the sync job too, it's something I've been more careful about! I switch programs from WavePad to Audacity and I think that's contributed a lot to the improvements!

And here is some new stuff! One major new change; Doubles charts! Double Challenge will come as standard for all files from now on, and I'm going to be going back to add the charts to old files every now and again too. Fear not about worrying about redownloading the whole file though, the .ssc and the .sm files will be available seperately so if you want the Double charts just replace the old file with the new!
