CM Punk has been released/fired by AEW.

I was a fan of this guy for over a decade and in just around a year he managed to make me thankful that he's probably not wrestling again.

If they do, I won't know what to think of WWE anymore. I won't say I'll stop watching it, but after what we went through, from all the part time world champions, to all the crap through 2017-2019, to having wrestlers with actual momentum lose world title matches and never gain the world title, to even the ECW Rebrand, I'll probably take a hiatus from watching WWE. Last year when Cody Rhodes lost, I stopped watching for about 2 months then regained interest when the World Heavyweight Championship returned. Some things started getting better in WWE since then, amazing premium live events, CM Punk returning, and higher quality matches. Here we are now, zero Vince McMahon atrocious booking, and the 40th Wrestlemania is almost here. Roman Reigns has exceeded 1000 days. There's no other good reason to keep him as champion past Mania. A lot of people were wanting Roman Reigns to retain last year because his title reign was at the 900's. He's past 1000 days. Let him lose it at Mania.

p.s. I have always believed in Roman Reigns even during his worst days, but it's about damn time someone else becomes the top star.

Given how storyline-wise the deck is stacked, it's happening. Cody's winning. There's too much momentum now that they would be truly fucking stupid to not bite now. To be honest, I'm genuinely surprised that they were able to keep the story decently hot for a year. Wouldn't have expected that at all post-Mania 39, although I wouldn't have expected CM Punk and The Rock to have entered the story. God, 2023 was a fever dream in the best way, wasn't it

Also, The Rock coming back as a heel and being the biggest corpo prick ever is fucking fantastic. It's like 1998 again.

Personally I've been fucking bored shitless all the way through the entire calendar year. It's like they've just been spinning their wheels for 12 months going "ah fuck we have nothing else with the Roman thing but we really wanted him to break a thousand days for... reasons." I'm just glad this might finally be over at Mania 40.

They managed to keep Cody's "finish the story" bit hot by not actually focusing on it for most of the year. They let him do other things (like the absolutely pointless feud with Lesnar) and didn't really start talking about it every week again until the Rumble got closer. Smartest thing they could have done if they were going to come around and do the most predictable thing possible (after trying really hard not to do the most predictable thing possible once Dwayne found his way into power).

That said, Roman's title reign slips into the status of Third Longest Ever somewhere in mid-September, surpassing Hulk Hogan or Bob Backlund depending on which record book you decide to believe. That's unfortunately a perfectly reasonable amount of time to extend this tired reign by just for the sake of updating the list again, and they are absolutely goofy enough to do this.

Cody's not winning that belt at 'Mania. Again.

Just watched the first night of Wrestlemania XL and found out that after 666 days as the longest reigning, Gunther "The Ring General" is no longer Intercontinential Champion. Sami Zayn finally has it after all these days. It just shows how long titles can change hands, but if Gunther had won, he would still be breaking a record.

Also the Roman/Cody/The Rock/Rollins match was truely groundbreaking. The Rock/Roman Reigns won that match, and tomorrow, it's Bloodline Rules. I knew it would happen from the start, but it's anything goes. I just can see how Cody could win that belt, but if Roman Reigns loses, I will be so upset as it's a streak he's been working hard to keep going. I just can't let that happen.

So far Mania Night 1 was like a straight down the middle 5/10. One good match. One shit match. Everything else in the middle. Too much sponsorship (even for WWE standards), Pat needs to shut the fuck up.

Night 2 was kinda always going to be the better show, so here's hoping.
