Staying conservative with my steps is going to be a tough one to handle. I often expend a lot of energy when I start exercising or playing DDR. I step toes first on the pad and never step with my heels, so that could be ideal for me to start practicing on.
You know, I would assume that a person looking to do a 24 hour marathon for a dance game would be someone who's damn good at it already for lengths of time, and not just a person who likes the game and thinks this is a novel thing to do. But to each their own.
You run any marathons or have any sense of stamina? This is all so confusing what would spur you to do this kind of thing...

I cycle on occasion, usually doing about 20-30 miles on average ranging from 1-2 hours. Most I've cycled is 40 mi with
As far as DDR, I typically devote 2-3 hours of time when I visit an arcade playing on . I thought of this as a rationale to start pursuing the record seriously. It's a starting point but not a guarantee I can go 24 hours since I play 2-4 credits in a row and then take a break. I'm currently working to play songs without stopping to often (did 1.5 hours yesterday playing on Extreme JP) so I can try to reduce the amount of breaks I take and increase the amount of time I'm actually playing.

If you have a console version of DDR, you could play Endless mode on Heavy. It will randomly select a song for you, and there is no end. It would be good practice.

Absolutely doing, despite playing on a softpad. The only annoyance is that the lifebar depletes fast and is hard to recover as it goes into the later stages. I played endless on DDRMAX2 US today (ignoring the break stages) until I failed at the 47th stage. Most of my combo breaks were pad misses on the left arrow, which I've been having problems with.
The best I've usually done on endless is in the range the 10th-15th stage. Again, due to pad misses but I'm not putting the full blame on them.

Wait, you can't play more than 15 songs on endless and you want to play DDR for 24 hours straight? I think you need to be a bit more realistic with your goals. I did a charity stream for 16 hours (with a much less strict set of rules) and even I had major troubles.

Technically it does have an end. Thanks to KON's video, DDR X2 US CS's Endless mode stops at around Stage 249, after that it just brings you back to the difficulty setting you want to put for Endless Mode.It still would be good practice for you to play it and see how long you can last on it.

262 for me
Bad practice due to a short song list.

Update:
I met with the manager of the Bowling Center and he okayed me setting up space to attempt it. He'll cover the costs of credits on the machine. He stated one of the technicians lives close by, so I'll be in contact with him soon. I still haven't mentioned to him about doing the charity fundraiser or online streaming; I'm still undecided on the latter.
I did some play stepping lightly on the machine and it seemed to work well; only problem was I didn't step on the up arrow hard enough and I would get misses. I'll be visiting another place to practice and do a "mock marathon" closer to time.
The rules are straightened out except for a drug test which was mandatory under the old rules. I will ask the judges on the TG forums today, but what do you think about it?

I think you should reevaluate what you're doing per my comment above.

I know you don't have to start playing until the 10th hour, but this does not sound like something you could actually do.
15 songs doesn't cover 24 hours unless you're Pink Floyd.

Once ICNH made his first comment, I thought about it and 24 hours sounds too ambitious. I'll go with 16 hours as the goal, and I'll be surprised if I can go higher.

Well it depends on what difficulty you are playing as well because the game ends when you get the score to all 9's.

Getting the score to that would take WAAAAAY too long on anything other than Heavy/Challenge. I don't think anyone is both skilled enough and could be arsed to play for that long with easy steps.
