"I'm honestly pissed off."

Anyway, totally unrelated tot he theme, but to those who had experience with random bugs from other file imports, I wanted to play my Step'n Music characters (pretty much my cheerleaders onto the empty black sides of the interface (I refuse to stretch or zoom in the simfile BGs)) but so far I am getting this error. I try to find the little code on my SnM but well.. No luck and I'm no coder, so yea.

It's no biggie if no one can help me or interest in doing so. Better get used to playing on a simulation that is not Pop'n DDR.
I've never tested any dancing character stuff because I haven't seen any non-Konami ones floating around, so it didn't seem important. So this explanation/fix might be wrong.

When Stepmania goes to load the characters, it needs positions to put them at. It looks in the DancingCharacters section of the metrics. For the Player 1 character position, it looks at 2DCharacterXP1 and 2DCharacterYP1. For the Player 2 character position, it looks at 2DCharacterXP2 and 2DCharacterYP2.
Because these metrics aren't set, it encounters an error.

The solution is probably to add a section like this to metrics.ini.

[DancingCharacters]
2DCharacterXP1=SCREEN_WIDTH * 0.25
2DCharacterYP1=SCREEN_HEIGHT * 0.5
2DCharacterXP2=SCREEN_WIDTH * 0.75
2DCharacterYP2=SCREEN_HEIGHT * 0.5

Side note:
There's a comment in the code that says "TODO: Remove support for 2D characters, Lua can do it."
The code appears to work by loading a bunch of old fashioned ini files, which probably seriously limits what they can do.
So they could be considered deprecated, but might still work if you add the metrics for the positions in by hand.
silenttype01: Kyzentun is never harsh. He says it how it is.

GENERATION 24: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation. Social experiment.
