I need help to know if someone has a method or good program to synchronize the offset of a song in stepmania. I always have problems with my simfiles for that reason. Roll Eyes

Oh, well... maybe it won't work for you, but all my simfiles I use "manually-method" for sync the BPM and the Offset, and actually... is so simple detect the correct offset, is more difficult for me detect the correct BPM.

Sony Vegas if you want to be sure of your offset. You can clearly view the waves and trim to adjust to next measure before getting the offset. Audacity is ok but the drawback only is it don't convert the grid lines from seconds to measures/beats if you want to move the audio to any measure.

I quit using the SM method (adjust F11/F12 keys) because the result is always biased. It always depend on your own global offset so there are times that your sync is ok whereas if others play it, it doesn't.

Sync eh? I am your guy. Synchronization is extremely important to me. I have synced over 1000+ songs... (Yes, I am serious. I am not kidding...) I found a useful method if your using sm5. (it's a obvious solution though.) If your not using sm5, then this is pretty much useless to you sorry. If you are, please read.

A pretty straight forward method I use is to create a new edit step and name it "sync". From here, fill the step chart with a single fill pattern of 4th notes on beat. (I use left arrows. If the song is not on beat, try your best to find a pattern that fits close enough. Like 8ths or some recognizable pattern repeated over and over again.) Once learning/mastering this pattern, save, test play, and press f6 at the start. Play the pattern extremely carefully and try not to focus on hitting the arrows with accuracy but focus on the beat/pattern itself. Play the song a few times as needed and press the esc key. Save the changes if you feel it's correct. Otherwise, try again. (repeat as needed.)

You should have the file synced very close. However, I want to point out one thing. Sync between sm5 and 3.9 is very different. (or just computers in general.) You cannot perfectly sync a file but, if you just want it for you, that is fine. As long as it has a good base line synchronization, it should be fine. Also, once your done syncing the file, you can just delete the edit file. The sync should be saved to all steps.

I should also mention there are other programs out there. I have yet to try them myself but, this method helps me a lot. If anyone wants to post about that program feel free to and explain it. Smile
