Well Aegis who were you expecting? I'm happy with the characters they're putting in.

Considering how much extra content was added to this game when there initially were no plans for DLC, there's really no need to be disappointed. Maybe a character you wanted didn't make the cut, but people really should just be thankful and appreciative for the amount of work and detail that went into content that originally wasn't going to happen, along with making the impossible possible in some cases.

Outside of Bayonetta, I can't say any of the DLC characters have been great. People wanted Shovel Knight, that would have been a waste of a slot. Literally who from Fire Emblem fills that slot I guess, because there needed to be another Fire Emblem sword fighter that counters.

Like Cloud for example. Final Fantasy 7 was not on a Nintendo console and the series jump made his character seem impossible to include, but they made it happen. Also Square Enix has a history and a good relationship with Nintendo because Final Fantasy started on a Nintendo console and they collaborated on a few projects together including Super Mario RPG, so this might have helped as well. And well said about everything else.

I didn't even think about that! I wonder if the timing of Geno's costume DLC isn't coincidental considering this is the same update with Cloud. (The Chocobo hat is obvious)
By the way, since no one listed them, these are all the things slated for February:
Characters
Corrin
Bayonetta (includes multiple trophies and Umbra Clock Tower stage)
Costumes
Bionic Armor [Brawler outfit]
Ashley Wig [All Types]
Ashley Outfit [Swordfighter]
Tails Wig [All Types]
Tails Outfit [Gunner]
Knuckles Wig [All Types]
Knuckles Outfit [Brawler]
Takamaru Wig [All Types]
Takamaru Outfit [Swordfighter]
Gil Helm [All Types hat]
Gil Armor [Swordfighter outfit]

we do not need 6 Fire Emblem characters
they look really awesome but we do not need 6 of them when Corrin barely has any history for Pete's sake
What if Corrin's announcement was to lower everyone's expectations before announcing Bayonetta as the winner of the fan poll? Which seems crazy, since everyone wanted Shovel Knight, Shantae, K. Rool, Snake's return, and Banjo-Kazooie among others. Ah, but they included the magical word "realizable" in the announcement. I'd basically forgotten she was a character besides making jokes to a certain someone who bought Bayonetta 2 at release and has yet to play more than ten minutes of the first one. xP I can't think of a more fitting character... not really following games outside the series I've already sold my soul to, and Lloyd Irving was already kicked out, so no real hopes for a Tales character.
... I wanted Tails, though. Mii Tails is... admittedly cute, but he's missing his cute Tails VA... whoever that is, now. And, you know, a DDR reference of any sort would've been kind of amazing...
Speaking of VAs, though, why'd they use Cloud's Japanese voice? FF's got lovely English VAs. Would've been nice icing on the cake to get his English voice since, well, that's what the Western fans are used to. One could argue "no other DLC character got that special treatment" but then Bayonetta happened.
But let us not forget, the game is still good without any DLC at all. Still too many characters to learn to main.

Looking now, Sakurai really played it safe with the DLC characters. Every pick was expected or popular in one way or another. Mewtwo, Roy, and Lucas were all returning fighters that fans really wanted back in (same could be said for Wolf), Ryu is the king of Fighting game characters, Cloud is the king of RPG characters, Bayonetta (2) was a recent success and got voted in by the community, and Corrin had already solidified himself as an icon in Japan.
...then compare that to the default newcomer roster in Smash, which I find was a bit more shocking and intruiging with each coming reveal. We have characters that don't fight at all like Wii Fit Trainers and Villagers, NES classics like Little Mac and Duck Hunt, and 3rd party characters from the days of old like Mega Man and Pac-Man. On the DLC side, we have 3 very modern 3rd party fighters, 3 returning fighters, and a Fire Emblem dude(tte).
Now, I'm not saying that the DLC characters are bad *looks at all the attention to detail on Ryu and Bayonetta*, but I'd say that the base game gave the more pleasent surprises. Besides, the DLC is optional, so if you hate guys like Cloud and Roy, your experience isn't getting ruined. No, it only gets ruined if you voted for Shovel Knight or Bandana Dee like I did and you got hit by disappointment

Basically, the moral of the story is Sakurai did his best to satisfy many different fans of this game and other series and retain the authenticity of each character, stage, music, etc. while also applying the Smash charm that we all know and love, but gamers will still find ways to complain and be disappointed because they didn't get every single thing that they wanted. Typical.

Just as a heads up, Bayonetta (along with her stage and series trophies) and Corrin (and 3DS trophies) will be available to download tomorrow. I'm not sure exactly what time they'll start to be available, though.

I believe that Nintendo reported that Afternoon would be release time.

I'm too stubborn to play Corrin, but my friend was using the dragon kid to wipe the floor with me. D': Tried Bayonetta, and she's pretty fun. Can't figure out how to counter either of them, even with a character that had a counter. xP
I love that people are talking about making Umbra Clock Tower tournament legal. The main complaint I've been hearing is it has one of the most distracting backgrounds of, well, at least anything else tournament legal. But the hazardless stage changes are snazzy and refreshing.

We got one... sort of. The Bionic Set is almost identical to Rinon's clothing. And for Brawler nonetheless, so fancy footmoves out the max. I'm adding a Rinon build and Valkyrie Dimension stage to my YouTube checklist.Post #459 · Posted at 2016-02-07 01:41:31am 8.2 years ago

...why would anyone expect a DDR reference in this installment of Smash, which has no significant involvement from Konami?

I said "would've been amazing," not "would've been likely."
Bionic set, going off memory, looks more like Gus, I think. At least, one of the sets looks a lot like X2 Gus. I did make a Zero swordfighter Mii which is more Zero than I'd expect to have in Smash, so yay. I tried to make a DDR arrow custom stage in Brawl, but the slopes were obnoxious to fight on and I was too lazy to design a better one.
