GF/DM already uses album arts, since XG.
At this point the only BEMANI game that doesn't use album arts is beatmania IIDX. pop'n music doesn't either, but some songs (mostly licenses) have.

Though Hello pop'n music does.

So first they made a simplified version of pop'n music and now a simplified GuitarFreaks and Drummania with a much shorter name... Makes me wonder what will happen to DDR in the future.

I like the speaker-bear characters.

I realize that HELLO! POP'N MUSIC does, but that game is an spin-off and I was referring to the main series.

In the main series the closest to album arts are the Enjoy/Easy Mode jackets, which are mostly for TV&ANIME licenses and some random Konami originals (mostly songs from other Konami games).
I read somewhere that Sunny Park was going to use album arts for the licenses as well.

On the topic of this game having the chance of being brought over to the US...

That's plausible, the cabinet looks small, looks cheap, but keep in mind the song list...as well as the name :/

Actually, what am I saying? The drum one might bring in revenue, the guitar one however, unless it has a good solid track list + it doesn't cost you $1 for 1 song, then it might actually work.

But that's only a BEMANI-fan dream, and this is America. One of the two doesn't belong.

As a semi-big fan of the GuitarFreaks and DrumMania series, I'd like to say that GuitarFreaks I believe would actually do pretty well in America. Versus Guitar Hero, the five button guitar play is actually very different, enough to distinguish itself from already existing western music games. For instance, the motions and the flings you have to do with the guitar. I think it's one of the most fun things in that game, although it may look silly to some people. Also on holds, you get to shake your guitar which also makes the controller vibrate (and I think that's really cool, you kinda get a sense of power when you're playing). Also something that'll be new for people to get used to will be the ratings for every note you hit. Yeah the western market already knows this from games like DDR, but with a drum and guitar game, I think it could add another level of difficulty for them instead of tilting a guitar to 2x their multiplier.

My opinion is that GuitarFreaks will probably do just as good as DrumMania. No one bothers to play Guitar Hero arcade (I think?) because it's exactly like Guitar Hero 3, but little with less content. You can play that stuff at home, no reason to pay to play it with guitars that may or may not work. GuitarFreaks has a very different controller which gives it a way bigger upper hand than Guitar Hero. It's a lot heavier and almost will never malfunction regardless of how rough you are with it. Also the vibration feature as said before, I think it's really neat.

DrumMania actually might have the hard time here considering how hard it is for a beginner to pick it up. Unless you play real drums, it could be hard for someone to pick it right up considering you're practically playing the real part for it. And you know people, they dislike things they're not good at and probably won't try them again. However if it has a big enough player base to keep it going, then I think more than likely it will succeed in America.

Those cabinets are basically:

- Drum: lost the raised stage
- Guitar: lost a whole guitar

Otherwise they're the same shape as XG2/3 cabinets. In fact, one of the two location tests was installed in an existing pair of XG2/3 cabinets. BemaniWiki assumes that will be possible in the final release.

They got rid of the 3D dorks in the background in favor of returning to the classic lanes + full video display. I know the Japanese fans care way too much about that. But then again, it was the American fans who asked for the selectable dancers in DDR to return. I like the return of ee'mall on the cell phone site. Now that it can be done anywhere and without a dedicated machine it's going to work this time. (They're not calling it ee'mall, but it totally is.)

If it weren't for the missing guitar then this would be a normal software upgrade. I can't imagine they did that to save money, because shit is still expensive. (There are no cost saving measures you can take on a million-Yen machine that make it worth it by the cost saving measures alone.) I bet both guitars were rarely used simultaneously, center play is more comfortable, and center play lets them slim the cabinet down.

EDIT: actually, that's a major change for GuitarFreaks. GF XG cabinets look like EZ2DJ cabinets, which look like IIDX cabinets. These new cabinets are a new design. On the official website they show XG1 cabinets upgraded to XG3, so ignore the side speakers on GF and the "roof" on DM.

About your statement about two guitars rarely being used together, I disagree. In Japan lots of people just go to arcades together with a friend or something and they enjoy playing together. Surprisingly even games like pop'n music get played with multiplayer often with the more casual gamers. Coop with your friends is pretty important and I think people will be disappointed with the more single player centric approach.

But with the slimmed down cabinet, I really do hope this makes it to America. This is one of my favorite games in Japan and I think it has a lot of potential if it came to America if people are open to try it. Just like the direction DDR is going, this could save money for the arcades, and who knows, if BEMANI keeps going this direction with their other music games, they'll have a whole new market to go to and maybe arcade gaming in America will be alive again.

The main reason why people in America don't play arcade games is because they can play all the games they enjoy at home now. Japanese people on the other hand have very small houses, and in order to get the full experience, they rely on arcades for their gaming. At first the revival could go slowly, but in the long run people will realize that arcade gaming has something that consumer software doesn't have. With controllers people dream of owning and with loud stereos and lights flickering everywhere, the arcade atmosphere always reigned over staying at home and playing a game. With this, who knows, maybe e-Amusement will make a move to America too again on a broader scale. I think partially the reason why it didn't do too well is because people barely knew about it. If Konami markets it to multiple big arcades in America, then I think it'll be the gateway for having people coming back and back again to play more songs on games. Since Konami is also going for the updates only type game to save money, I think without it, the games will be pretty useless in America.

What's with the Futura fetish, Konami? This UI makes it look like Reflec Beat collete vs. DrumMania/GuitarFreaks XG4

I don't think having to be in Moreno Valley is worth playing that most likely amazing game.

Great to see it finally happened though. Plus eamuse! Hopefully Puente Hills can upgrade at some point. Or at least get theirs back into the shape it was in a few years ago.

"KyokiShinsa"
I played a ton of it the instant we got it going. I'm in godly love with the songlist and even started getting specifically into Drummania because of how fun it was.

BY THE WAY GUYS:
Note! I believe Gitadora is only 1 player for the Guitar and looks like it requires another cabinet for 2 guitarists. I tested it out and started on the 1st player side, the guitar wasn't working. Then I switched to the 2nd player guitar and that one was playing for the left side. The upgrades were installed in the XG3 cabinets.

Can anybody tell me what's up?

Well, the Gitadora's new cabinet is only single-player, but upgraded-XG3 should still work just like before.
To be honest I don't play much, nor do I look at it a lot, so I don't know if it works like before when being 2 players, but I some time play it on upgraded XG3-cabinet and always use the 1P side without any problem. I think it's more of a problem with the maintenance of the machine itself (guitars inverted or something)

By the way, does it has access to Secret Live Songs through the phone application as well? If so it's pretty cool to see it getting out of Japan (and well...good luck for unlocking the songs, I find it to be seriously annoying)
