Heavy - 9

What's it with me and Rhythm Heaven Remix 8s?
Anyway, since this is from a Wii version with a much higher budget, the result is a much higher quality song.
Despite being a last minute file, it's had a lot of thought put into it.

Played these all last night.

+5 Cellular Telephone [Braeden47]
+4 London Bridge (Speed Mix) [Pie-kun]
+3 Mermaid Girl (Ryu Remix) [Blinded_No_More]
+2 She So [Tyma]
+1 Brilliant 2U (AKBK Mix) [Daiz]
24th Century Boy [Oni-91]
Screw Driver [Darkstorm091]
Quicksilver [Telperion]
Robin [Pandemonium X]
Neodelic [Azn_Punk_07]
Gravity (Cahill Radio Edit) [hooky]
I Love You [TaroNuke]
Nakaru No Hana [Chewi]
Walk Away [DDR Addict]
Water Horizon [Mr. Music]
S'eiteint L'Solar [Maestro Grithok X]
Kimi No Shiranai Monogatari [NXCProduction]

Selected Comments: If I didn't comment on your file, that means I had nothing in particular to say about it.
I Love You - I've never been a fan of fast 12th note bursts. I always feel like they give a song uneven difficulty - they come out of nowhere and disrupt the flow. It's mostly a personal thing, but I felt I should justify myself here, because I imagine quite a few other people are going to rank your sim highly.

Kimi No Shiranai Monogatari - Your file was a blast to play on keyboard, but it was painful on pad Sad. Things like stepjumps, sixteenth doublesteps, and moving steps on freezes don't work well on pad when abused. You can incorporate them into your songs, but generally basing a whole chart arond gimmicks like that make that chart really messy to play.

Mermaid Girl (Ryu Remix) - The stop was brutal. What is this, Healing Vision -Angelic Mix-? Tongue

Neodelic - I have to say, although I wasn't the biggest fan of this chart, those bpm gimmicks were done REALLY nicely. Kudos.

Quicksilver - See my comments for Neodelic Tongue

S'eiteint L'Solar - This song is why indie shouldn't be in DDR Tongue. It's a shame that it works so poorly because there were some interesting rhythms in that song, but it's just so. Undanceable.

She's So - I love you <3. I hope that everyone can get the video to work. It's so worth it XD

Walk Away - Try to avoid overcharting simple songs like this one. A lot of the sixteenths and jumps went to nothing and felt out of place. Hard does not always equal fun.

Water Horizon - You really need to proofread your stepsbefore you submit them. There are a lot of obvious doublestep/rhythm errors that I know you're capable of fixing - it's just a matter of actually fixing them.

Vote Totals:
London Bridge (Speedo Mix) (Pie-kun) - 6
Cellular Telephone (Braeden47) - 5
Quick Sliver (Telperion) - 5
NARAKU NO HANA (Chewi☆) - 4

As per usual, 5/10 is an "average" chart.

24th Century BOY - 6.75/10.
- HEAVY: Some of the rhythms were pretty tough to figure out (the parts introducing 16th notes, save for the end), but, for the most part, this was a very well-put-together chart whose steps matched the energy of the song. Aside from the weird chaos sections and the long freeze arrow in the beginning-middle (that. was strange.) this was a good chart that didn't need anything added to it, in my opinion. 7.5/10.
- CHALLENGE: I don't think that the Heavy chart needed anything added to it aside from maybe difficulty--which is kind of an oxymoron given how I didn't like the kind of difficulty you implemented in that chart. While it was nice and all that there were some parts where the difficulty rise was implemented seamlessly, there were difficulty spikes sometimes--I'm looking at you, pseudo-So Deep rhythms. It wasn't bad by any means, but it just wasn't as good as Heavy. 6/10.

BRILLIANT 2U (AKBK Mix) - 5/10.
- LIGHT: SOMEBODY SCREAM
Aside from that, I thought that, for the most part, this was pretty well put together as well. Some of the parts were really strange, but my qualms about them mainly arose from "I would've done such-and-such" differently rather than "where the flying flip am I going to put my feet". I really think you should've emulated the original BRILLIANT 2U a bit more, especially during the part around measure 34--though, then again, this was only the first chart. (I don't think of it as light because seriously what light chart looks like this.) 6/10.
- STANDARD: Out of all four of your charts, this was probably the strongest. I absolutely love what you did with measures 26 to 48, even if the sixteenths and other strange rhythms clogged up the rest of it. Really, this is what your Heavy should've been if you wanted to make this more of a "traditional" DDR chart instead of four alternate expert-oriented charts--or, better yet, your Challenge, because your Light chart was aso pretty strong. Anyway, like I said, I liked this way more than your higher difficulty charts, and marginally more than your Light chart. 6.5/10.
- HEAVY: I originally thought that having four expert-geared charts was a good thing, but I didn't realize that that meant all the more charts to review. Even without taking that into account, I don't think that you really needed to bump it up above the level of difficulty that you used in your Light chart--Standard was already pushing it. The difficulty was forced, in my opinion; this and the Challenge charts. Some of the sixteenth bursts didn't make sense (just look at the last beat and a half of measure 20 and tell me that works), and, though I know what you were trying to go for, BRILLIANT 2U works for what it is--a fairly easy song. Pushing sixteenths at it isn't going to help it all too much. Your usage of eighths was better in the higher difficulty charts, though--measures 23 to 25 are definitely a testamant to that--but know temperance and you shall go far. 4/10.
- CHALLENGE: This isn't too strong a chart, in my opinion. Measure 23 was exceptional, but then it delved into weird-ass jumps and sixteenth streams like those in measures 26, 27 and 29. The syncopated melodies, while they made sense musically, didn't translate well to foot; it kind of reminded me of cachaca, in a strange way. Like I said, BRILLIANT 2U is meant to be a high-energy track that relative beginners can enjoy, and I think it's fine with that place. This chart and the Heavy chart were wholly unnecessary. 3.5/10.

CELLULAR TELEPHONE - 7/10
- There were some sync issues, but I'm willing to overlook that because, even if this chart was fairly "vanilla", as we know, simple things can be good. And, in this case, it was. The beginning was great, how it followed the music without being excessive, as did the "refrain" (even if it was repeated once--the "Cellular telephone" part). The three-eights-in-a-row thing ("Cell-u-lar, tel-e-phone") is salt: when it's all a chart is, it's disgusting, but when it's used in moderation, it can be a great addition to a chart. I liked what the instrumental part towards the beginning was doing, why did you have to change it up when that same part repeated in the measure 40s? The jumps impeded the flow of the chart. Still, I liked it, and it was a strong chart overall, if a little harder than I would've made it. But I didn't, so I shouldn't bitch about that.

DANCES WITH SNOW FAIRIES - 7.5/10
- The middle section wasn't great. Like, where there's a lull towards the middle-end before the big finale. Oh yeah, and you totally lost a few beats towards the end. So there's that. ...But that's it. The rest of it was... "constructed" is probably the best word for it. It was definitely segmented--the gallops part (particularly strong, IMO) was distinct from the part immediately preceding and succeeding it. You made this chart with some sort of purpose, some sort of sublime purpose, and you succeeded. I really don't have much negative to say about this chart, good job!

KIMI NO SHIRANAI MONOGATARI - 1.5/10
- Sorry, this didn't do it for me. With less-than-optimal sync, doublesteps as early as measure 4, the strangest slowdown (and speedup, holy crap what was that jump-step-freeze section) and... whatever the section starting at 19 was, I don't know if this was the greatest song choice. Did you make this for keyboard? I think it would work better on keyboard, but if you're playing on pad, HOO BOY good luck.

LONDON BRIDGE - 9/10
- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dlEm_2ke8k
3:54 sums up my thoughts about this sim pretty well.

NARAKU NO HANA - 7/10
- I don't really have many complaints about this one. Like some other good ones this week, it was beautifully minimalist. I normally would've doublestepped spins if they were mixed in with too complex patterns, but yours were easy to spot and I could do them without much difficulty at all, even if they didn't add TOO too much to the chart. You could've done so much more with the ending portion, though; I'm not surprised you didn't, though, as it would throw off the homogenization of the difficulty. Plus, the video was a bit offsync, I've noticed, but it REALLY isn't that big of a deal. You still did a respectably good job.

ROBIN - 8/10
- I actually played this one out of order because I'm a sucker for S-C-U. Bottom line, it was a fantastic chart. It's delightfully minimalist, which fits FANTASTICALLY for this song, but you also made it your own with that freeze section in the middle. Hell, I can't even complain about the doublesteps; you employed them wonderfully. I loved this chart, great job!

SCREW DRIVER - 4.5/10
- The sync was pretty far off, which really screwed with what I liked about this chart--which was quite a lot, actually. Granted, you (IMO) overused freeze arrows (and, just personally, I don't like seeing them end half a beat before a step in the same direction, but that's just me), but you tempered your chart. It would've been really easy to make this a really hard and stupid chart that followed the guitar like a lemming, but for the most part (65, 66) you didn't, and the chart greatly benefitted. The jumps, too, were really well placed, and even if there were two jumps an eighth away from each other, even at 188 BPM. If only your sync was on, you would've been one to beat.

WALK AWAY - 6/10
- super star 2.0 yaaaay! And I actually mean that--I loved SUPER STAR, and the beginning of your chart emulated it (the second verse with the repeating eighths) pretty well. However, if that was intentional, I like how you took it in a different direction. Granted, some of the sixteenth triplets in the chorus seemed like they were forcing difficulty onto the chart, but, for the most part, even if the ending was weird, you still did a good job at making a pretty easy chart--which is kind of an umbrella term for Kelly Clarkson songs if not for the fact that you still added a bit of "bite" to it--like I said, SUPER STAR 2.0. It ain't no six. (That being said, it's totally not an 8, either; maybe a hard 7?)

I LOVE YOU - 7/10
- I liked this. Like, a lot. There were a couple awkward step spots which usually made the same mistakes. The first of these mistakes was when the patterns were way too fast for their own good. 190*3=570BPM, which, while working well for gallops and such (they worked REALLY well in this chart), doesn't really fit for streams of eight-plus notes. The second is that there were a couple of odd moments in the beginning where there were offbeat notes that didn't really match up with anything in the music, so I didn't know what to follow. However, the sync was wonderful, and I liked how you made it jump-heavy without having it turn into I love you (AIR special).

MERMAID GIRL (RYU REMIX) - 6.5/10
- Oh god, I hate this song. That's probably the only real reason why I didn't give it a higher score, because I couldn't find anything that was necessarily wrong with it. The section that was about three-quarters of the way through had some issues where the steps were more intense than the music, and this weird freeze-gallop doublestep bleh, but the rest of it was difficult without being dumb, and just overall great. I'd definitely play this song again--and this time I'd be ready for that stop, holy HELL was that employed well. Like I said, though, the only problem? I'M A TWINKLE LITTLE MERMAID GIRL WAITING FOR A HONEY MAN DE-DUP-I-DIP-I TAKE ME THERE DE-DUP-I-DIP-I HOLD ME LONG

NEODELIC - 7.5/10
- I liked this. A lot. A whole lot. So much so that there really isn't much bad that I can say about it. The slowdown worked, the BPM gimmicks worked, the steps in general worked. I'm sure that it could be better, though--especially with that weird doublestep towards the middle (measure 56) and with the music cut; the entire song sounds like it's building towards a climax that never really comes. Just kinda weird is all, but good job overall.

WATER HORIZON - 4.5/10
- Someone likes his voltage. The slowdowns were really strange, especially the one in the middle--slowdowns like this are supposed to, IMO, decrease the amount of tension in the chart, so when they're kept the same, it seems... strange. The rhythms were fairly nicely done, though, but the cutting could use some work. I didn't like the fadeout. Also there are some doublesteps and syncing errors; it would REALLY do you good to fix those.

SHE'S SO - 10/0
- ...I'm sure I had some criticism for this, I just forgot it by the time the song was over.

Do you mean the sync was off? I thought I had restored it back to normal :/.

Also thanks for giving me at least one point so I'm not that idiot who doesn't move on -_-

Normally, I don't justify myself, as it makes me feel like I'm whining about your vote, but in this case I feel like I'm being dinged unjustly, since the song actually IS on sync, that's actually how the song is done in GFdm, even though it looks off.

There are a few parts where the song has a measure in 7/8 time, such as when it goes into the section where the preview is taken from. Rather than doing something stupid like putting in a silly tempo speed-up to keep the song "on the beat" I thought it would be more beneficial presentation wise to just roll with it.

Do you mean the sync was off? I thought I had restored it back to normal :/.
I don't mean that the sync was off. I mean that you just... missed a beat. Like it vanished straight out of existence. Second beat of measure 70, to be exact. Just... gone.
Also, YELLE isn't indie, she's just French.

So... the GF/DM version is a sixteenth beat too fast? Things don't necessarily need to match up with their BEMANI counterparts--if I made a sim of Shining Wizard, it doesn't need to scroll at 316 for the whole time bar a few measures; I can switch it to 158 if I want to. I think that adding a tempo change would make the chart better, because it's not really fun to have a good portion of your judgments as "GREAT" even if you're on a totally lenient judgment level and just KNOW that the artist is trying to emulate rhythm X and, upon trying to match it yourself, see a screen full of green and B. Which was a shame. I really did like the chart. I'm just critical is all.

Oh, okay. I misinterpreted what you were talking about when you were talking about it being off-sync. Sorry about that >_>.

However, this is odd for me as both me and my play testers found the sync to be really good, as there are examples of SDG test plays of this.

Maybe it's because I've never heard the song before. Lemme try it again.
EDIT :: Following the rhythms mainly instead of eyesight, I got 83 Marvellous, 157 Perfect, 220 Great and 2 Good.

And it's fine. It's better to just ask for clarification than to sulk around resenting something due to miscommunication. Smile

FUCK. There was supposed to be a stop there that I forgot to re-add when I switched over the timing -_-. I'l take the blame there - should I fix it or is it too late?
