Tally: Anime Dubs

Considering that significant content* is likely lost in translation when dubbed over its source content (unless something somehow precedes it), I would have to go for the original (JP) dubbing. Of course; there are exceptions, even if they usually fall into the "unless something somehow precedes it" quality.

* Ranging from puns, relationship voice actors, in-jokes, culture-specific content, and so forth.

Edit: Then again, I shouldn't need subs...

I could settle for either one, but watching subs makes the show feel more authentic. Sometimes dubbing can be an absolute mess. However, I have a much harder time paying attention to what's going on when watching subs over dubs.

Giving slightly more life to the thread.
I like dubbed since I can actually focus on the scene at hand. Unless it's honestly too awful to watch (Tokyopop's Initial D dub-I'm looking at you ), or just not available.

I like/prefer to understand what is being said without having to rush reading the subs so I'm gonna vote for BOTH

ONLY because Dubbed versions do not sound right, in most cases

Well, I think I'll chip in my opinion.

When I watch movies or series I tend to watch it in the original audio, which is mostly English, and if it's in a foreign language I'll also use subs. And this is no exception in Animes. As I don't understand Japanese, I always use English subs.

The reason is that I think mostly there is some sense of why they choose this voice to a character. Like with Soul Eater, Black Star has a higher pitched voice in Japanese. In German he has a low-pitched one.
Also for me, in Japanese just sound nicer and have often more fitting voicework with feelings. With dubs the translation can sometimes is wonky, having the lines not fit with what the characters say and often having some things get lost in translation. With subs this problem is less serious and some things can be quickly explained.

However, I don't mean to say dubs are bad. Rarely, I do like the dubbed ones more. One exception for example is the German dub of Digimon.

I prefer the english dubs if they're good.

If their terrible then I'll watch it subbed...Unless the Japanese is terrible (yes that CAN happen) then I'll just not watch the show in general.

In conclusion...I prefer the dubs
