(NOTE: Ok, so this is all very early in the planning stages, so this post is going to look a little bare-bones for now. In the future, as I know more, I'll be able to add more and more info here for you guys. =D I can promise that everything I post here WILL happen, unless otherwise noted - a lot of things are already set in stone.)
Alright, so through a series of awesome lucky coincidences, I am on the..."high council" of an anime convention that will be having its first year in Sevierville, Tennessee. (For those of you that know the area, it's about 40 minutes east of Knoxville.) As a part of this, I have volunteered to help with planning and potentially overseeing the game room. A part of that is tournaments, and more importantly, making sure that we have all kinds of games for all kinds of gamers.
That's where you guys come in.
I want to hold at least one, if not multiple, DDR/ITG tournament at this event, and I don't want it to be some tiny thing either. However, I'm still getting back into the arcade scene, let alone the tournament scene, so I'm not entirely sure how I should run it. I figured if I give you guys enough information, you could help me come to a conclusion about some of the finer details, so that I could make this an event that any ZiV member, or serious DDR/ITG member, would consider visiting.
Here's what I know so far, and like I said in the preface, I'll make sure to update you guys with information as soon as I get it myself.
-The tournament will likely be run on a Stepmania machine running off my computer and a monitor. IF we can find someone in the area willing to rent out an openITG machine, a Haxxorcab, or even some vanilla DDR cabs, we will definitely use those as well for the tournament play, and have them available alongside the Stepmania machine. Pads are TBD, I'm open to suggestions as I will be buying them for myself as well =P
[EDIT: An ITG machine has been secured, so the SM machine will be relegated to just fun play while tournaments are being held and play for those who want a bigger songlist. Still taking suggestions on pads. ^.^ Also, this isn't confirmed, but we might be able to get a PiU cab in there too!]
- There will be an entry fee, mainly to "sweeten the pot" so to speak, though I may consider having one free tournament as well. There will DEFINITELY be ways to get ahold of free tournament passes if you want a premium pass for the convention, so once we settle what the VIP pricing/availability/contents will be, you guys will be among the first to know. On a related note, I'm probably just going to give cash prizes, since buying something might be difficult - ALTHOUGH, I am open to suggestions on this as well.
- I'm not entirely sure what simfile packs will be available yet. My folder currently has every AC mix, a good chunk of the major CS releases (including every Ultramix/Universe song), all of ITG + ITG Rebirth (and, assuming it's out of beta by then, ITG Rebirth 2), as well as a few popular keyboard packs. Feel free to suggest packs for me, although please give me links - my google searches on a lot of the popular packs tend to lead me to sites that no longer exist. XD
- On a related note, I have no idea what packs will actually be USABLE during the tournament. Again, I'm considering splitting it - one for just DDR songs, and one for DDR, ITG, and whatever else is deemed tournament legal/worthy.
So what are your thoughts, guys? This is no ZiV-con, but I'm going to try my hardest as a representative of the competitive DDR/ITG communities to make this worth more than just a passing glance on a message board. =D

Question: When does this convention take place and what's the name of it?

Convention name is Anime Southeast, date is 13th-15th, location is the Sevierville Events Center in Sevierville, TN. I'll get a website once it's finished - it's close now, so stay tuned! =D
