I have two problems with simfiles that I create.

Problem 1: The simfile does not stop when the music does.
ex) A simfile for "Destined Marionette" by beatMario has been created. The steps end at 132.05 seconds and the music ends at 135.92 seconds, but the song continues to run for a long time after the music ends. The score is not displayed until at least 30 seconds after the music stops.
How do I have StepMania show the score when the music stops, and not, like, 30 seconds afterward?

Problem 2: The theme thinks a song is "Long" when in actuality it's cut under 2:30.
ex) A simfile for "Ricochet!" by Shiny Toy Guns has been created. The steps end at 130.23 and the music ends at 138.21. The music cut is less than 2:30, but on the Select Music wheel, StepMania recognizes the song as "Long" and takes up 2 songs when playing out of Event Mode.
Append: (This isn't for simfiles I create, but... yeah.) The theme thinks that a song is normal length when in actuality it's a "Long" song.
ex) A simfile for "Je Veux te Voir" by Yelle has been downloaded. The steps end at 198.95 and the music ends at 198.72. The music cut is obviously longer than 2:30, but on the Select Music wheel, StepMania recognizes the song as normal length. This would be OK if the game didn't crash every time the song was played.
How do I make it so that StepMania recognizes long songs as "Long" and cut songs as cut?

If anyone can help me with either of these, that would be MASSIVELY appreciated. Smile

I can't really guess what's gone wrong, but if you upload the simfiles somewhere, it'll probably be easy for us to figure out?

For the first problem, some chart in the file runs for those extra 30 seconds, and it could even be of another game type. By any chance did you base it off another simfile and/or use compress when making it?

For the second, I assume you're using the Stepmania editor to determine when the music ends. Stepmania uses the length tag in the mp3/ogg file to determine the music length (which can be seen in the song select in some themes). At least for ogg files, this tag can be easily manipulated (and is often done for r21 ITG machine compatibility), so Stepmania may think it's 1:45 when it could be several minutes long. The music file may also have several seconds of silence at the end, pushing it past 2:30.
IIDX Rank: SP 九段 (7/8)/ DP 七段 (5/8); 1P Side player
SP 11* Clears: 132/150 (88.00%); 12* Clears: 23/96 (23.96%)
Has access to CS 9th-EMP+PB+US, uses extended KOCs.

Tyma: Since I don't have a simfile category ATM, I'll upload the simfiles to Mediafire. (Not sure if that's allowed or not, but I don't have a simfile category on ZIv so it's pretty much the only place I can upload them.)

Meseki: Thanks for the help, but how exactly can I change the length tag of an ogg file?
Also, it turns out that there's about 20 seconds of silence at the end of the Ricochet! file. So... that problem's fixed.

Mediafire is great. We all use it.

"Give me a steady beat."
If you made your simfile in StepMania 3.95 or Plus/Redux, it auto-creates entries for all play styles including the ones you'll never use. These versions also play all measures in a file even if the audio has finished, so it keeps going past the music.

In other words, clean out your .sm file in Notepad after you're done editing. Also, try the file in 3.9 final or 4 (from stepmania.com) and see if it still does it.

(I suppose there could also be white space at the end of your audio file...)

Sorry to bump this thread again, but I have another rather... interesting problem.

While making my first simfile for the 2011 Summer Contest, I realized that the .sm file for this song, When the End, didn't write. It showed up essentially like this: [link] No matter how many times I saved it in StepMania itself, the code underneath #BGCHANGES:; wouldn't write like other simfiles would. Now, this simfile was tucked away in a folder called "ZZZ - ZIv Contest Submissions". Because no code was showing up in the .sm file, I moved the folder itself from folder ZZZ to folder A. Of course, it wouldn't take, but I found something odd: when I moved the simfile from one folder to another, the song itself stayed archived in ZZZ in StepMania's memory--mp3 file and steps, but not graphics. [[link] Trying to delete the file and start over, I removed everything else from folder ZZZ and moved it to folder A, deleting folder ZZZ. [link] The problem is that the simfile stayed there, even when I reloaded the songs multiple times and deleted the folder it was in. The steps are still there, the offset and such... everything is how I left it except the graphics and the fact that it's floating in a folder that doesn't exist anymore.

So now I have a "phantom" simfile and no idea what to do with it/how to get it to go away/how to get it to materialize and save. Can someone tell me what I did wrong, or tell me how to fix my problem?

BTW it's by no means an urgent problem, I'm just wondering is all.

Do you know specifically which version of 3.9? "vanilla", 3.9 final, 3.9a, 3.95, 3.9 Plus, etc.... There are so many damned iterations of 3.9 it's not funny.

Are you using a custom theme? custom arrows, have you messed with the metrics.ini file any, etc...?

All I can think of with what you've said so far is your installation is borked and must be redone or you're using a strange theme that's screwing with your edit mode. If so, restore the default theme and if that doesn't work, move your files out of the folders, unistall, erase the entire directory (And in your My Documents if there's something there too) and reinstall from scratch, confirm that edit mode works, try your custom files again, then confirm edit mode still works after that.

Edit: What version of WINDOWS are you using?

WHUT
I'm pretty sure I just got the one from Stepmania's website. This one. Not sure which iteration that is, but... yeah. :x
It doesn't matter; no matter which theme I use, including the default, the "ghost" file remains. I do use the Solo noteskin that I got off of stepmaniathings, but that's never given me trouble before.
I'll do that, thanks, though the problem is that I have zero time. I'll get back to you on whether it works or not when I get around to it.

You're using 3.9a, which means it doesn't matter if you're on Vista or 7, the permissions bug with all previous versions of 3.9 has been fixed.

I'd delete the folder and reinstall. (backup your stuff of course)
