After several years the Dance Praise Simfile Project is complete.
Q: What is Dance Praise
A: A DDR clone based on Christian Music with poorly scripted steps, a poor game interface, forced reverse arrows, poor synching, almost zero graphics.
Q: Sounds horrible, why did you want to work on this project?
A: The music is actually decent and there is a huge lack of Christian music in the StepMania community.
Q: What does your project consist of?
A: Complete Dance Praise simfiles with official lyrics, official music, and official steps. Additionally custom images, custom music videos (80% of the files have some sort of music video), and a custom challenge chart.
Q: Anything else, are there any ITG elements in the simfiles?
A: Yes, there's also a theme that will work with StepMania 3.9 that I borrowed heavily from StepMania Trinity but customized for my local church, and there are NO ITG elements such as no hands and no rolls. All charts are easily paddable and nothing exceeds a 9-foot ranking on DDR Extreme type difficulty ratings.
Q: So is your project complete, is there anything missing?
A: Yes, I am finished with all that I had intended to do with Dance Praise. There was an easier chart for all the songs that I intentionally did not copy due to the simplicity of the Easy charts and how poorly made all the charts were (they are basically all the same Expert chart but with arrows removed here and there, so EVERY SINGLE CHART for a song is copied then clipped down, it felt extremely redundant to keep stepping all the charts so I gave up before ever starting the beginner charts). There are also additional Dance Praise games out there but I am not going to be copying any of those. Additionally there were two other songs that I didn't copy (Jesus Freak and Mood Rings). The reason I did not include Jesus Freak is because I had already made a full-length simfile for the song with a complete music video and the reason I did not include Mood Rings is because the song sounds like trash and there is nothing beneficial or enjoyable in the song.
Q: Do you plan for any other updates to this project?
A: Yes, I came across a small pack of Christian Simfiles at Bemanistyle. I plan on fixing them up to make them paddable and add music videos. I also have about 45 Christian simfiles mostly made by PenguinMan that I fixed up and made paddable that I plan to upload to my primary simfile category (HellRazoR PrayerWarrior35 - Simfiles - Zenius -I- vanisher.com -5th style- II). In total I have 137 Christian simfiles and I may be adding 25 more later on, there are 5 christian songs in my category that I made that you can download now.
Q: What about that UNLOCK file?
A: I was experimenting with UNLOCK features since I intend this to be a complete dance game for my local church and anyone who wants it. The unlocks work if you turn UNLOCKS ON in the main menu, however I was disappointed there is no indication when a file is unlocked other than it becomes selectable immediately... If anyone knows how to add a text type indication please let me know how to do it.
Q: Are you accepting any updates?
A: Always, if you want to make better graphics or have a better music video for a song let me know. If you have a Christian simfile that I don't, please let me know. If you see a mistake in a simfile (please don't ask me to fix the official steps I know they're bad) I am completely willing to accept corrections for anything (synching, steps, bad freeze arrow, or theming) or even if you want to include an update such as a better custom challenge chart or improvements to the theme.
Q: I already downloaded these files previously should I download them again?
A: Absolutely, you may have files with poor synching, no graphics, no videos, or without the custom challenge chart. The later updates I created will definately make these simfiles much more enjoyable.
Q: Why did you use such poor quality music videos?
A: I'm a music video whore, just appreciate the effort it took to sync the video and audio and if you don't like it just delete it. I tried to find the best videos I could, and I think I strive so hard to provide videos because I know my graphics aren't that great to look at.
Q: Did you do all this yourself?
A: No, there were about 5 other people who helped me over the years and to them I am appreciative. I did not do this for fame or for $ and I don't believe they helped me for such purposes either, just enjoy the simfiles and feel free to re-distribute them to anyone you like without permission. You can copy my work and edit it as you like without the need to ask for permission or credit anyone who worked on these files. Do whatever you want as you see fit with these files as long as you and/or others enjoy them.
Q: I'm not a christian, will I like any of these songs?
A: Absolutely, there are some songs that aren't christian themed such as "Numb" other than the band who created the song is recognized as a christian artist. And some songs have such basic themes like self-worth or getting through tough times, you should still enjoy many of these songs however there are some very fundamental blatant christian songs in these packs as well.
