Since I charted Aegis myself I'm going to give your Challenge10 a detailed review :V

+ It follows the music quite well, sometimes
+ It's a lot more balanced than my Aegis chart (mine gets unnecessarily hard and arguably less fun towards the end)

- Crossovers that don't complete (doublesteps that go to nowhere)
- They're everywhere

Have you tried doing this without doublestepping? I just find it's not good practice to chart like this leaving doublesteps in the middle of a stream. Try playing your chart index, and then seeing how many times you have to use the same finger twice in a row - that pretty much constitutes a doublestep.

Well, to be honest, I never gave the thought to doublestepping. Also, I didn't even know there was a such thing. I like the steps the way they are so people can catch up on the actual PAD. Not for a keyboard. I double step because it helps a person catch there breath when they mess up. And also I like using it for that reason.

Anything else?

Nonoonoononononono.

You don't get it.

At all.

Doublesteps make it HARDER for people to catch their breath, by making the player work harder.
They also make simfiles a TON less fun to play.

Have you tried your own song on pad? I've got a pad you know.
I was merely using the keyboard example to explain what a doublestep IS.

Quite frankly, you haven't given ANY thought to what the player has to do in these steps, and most likely can't pass 10s yourself.

I would NEVER play your file on pad because of how many doublesteps it has.

Christ, someone besides me explain this.

---------------------------------------------------------

"And one step farther than the complex crossover is a spin, which causes your body to turn a full 360 degrees around the pad. A simple example of a spin step is LDRUL. To alternate feet and step this pattern, you have to turn completely around the pad. Turning completely around does not come naturally to most players, which is why spins should not be placed in most streams of any fast speed whatsoever."

Doublestep's most basic form:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2526020/FUCK.png

Unfun pattern:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2526020/AUGH.png

SPIN DURING A 400BPM BATF*CK INSANE CHART:

---------------------------------------------------------

HOW TO MAKE FUN PAD FILES (Insane Steve):

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2526020/r21GuidePart1.htm
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2526020/r21GuidePart2.htm
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2526020/r21GuidePart3.htm

Because however you want to look at it now, your hard files are KEYBOARD files, and your easier charts have randomly placed doublesteps that may go with the flow of the music but do nothing to complement the flow of the steps themselves on a pad.

Amen Taro!!

I stay FAR away from AntoineRalic's simfiles because I tried a few of them before and I ONLY play on pad, they blow.

I can see this, but still, I only double step just because I like to use some repeatative patterns.

Double-stepping isn't a problem on DDR-style stepcharts. I've been playing long enough to be able to double-step my way out of "wrong foot first" situation, or complex patterns that I don't know well so that I avoid facing away from the screen. To me its just another way to challenge the player, not a style taboo that some of you are trying to peg it as.

That ITG double-step example is a bit extreme, are Antoine's simfile 400BPM with mines as well?

Firstly, delete jZip and download and install 7Zip (Which is free and doesn't add an annoying url file to your archives).

Secondly, there are too many to choose from and some are broken so I played the five you mentioned here in this thread:

I'll be honest, I was bracing for impact. But your files are pretty good. There properly synced too, which is sadly an uncommon thing in large user archives of simfiles. And the patterns in your stepcharts are noticeable and interesting.

I see what the others are on about though, there is an awful lot of double-stepping and switch-footing and other compound-words. But your charts are not excessively hard or even excessively hard because of them. So I stand by my original comment and say that they don't break the chart or make your simfiles bad in any way. You have a specific style, it's not a common one but it's not a bad one or a sloppy one either. I especially liked the relaxed Expert chart you gave Track 4.

The debate with technical stepcharts vs. double-stepping is as old as StepMania, and is likely to end around the same time as someone proves or disproved the existence of aliens. Understand that not everyone is going to like your files, or they'll feel that they are to hard to enjoy due to the amount of balance and alertness constant double-stepping takes to perform. But complaining that you're doing it at all is like going into a Mexican restaurant and bitching about how all they serve is Mexican food.

If you want to cater to a larger audience, consider spacing the double-steps out more or making them exclusive to the more difficult charts. Treat them like Mines and Freeze Arrows, they should be used to give a simfile variety but don't use them all the time.

My problem is that he didn't seem to know the implications of serving Mexican food.
He thought doublestepping made streams easier Oops

Once you learn exactly WHAT Mexican food is, you can advertise "I'M SELLING MEXICAN FOOD", and will make a lot more money from people expecting Mexican food.

I'm pretty sure AeronPython can pass these charts, but I'd like to see a video of Antoine himself padding the Aegis Challenge

I'll try the rest of your charts though.

My brain because of my Asphergers is going to make me at least 6 months straight of learning that. But I made this for love of Aegis whether the person knows it or not Blushing

Thank you, At least someone is trying to be fair and LEARNING ooki.

Thanks and I proably will, because it's actually a Spyware, so it's best to Delete it, eventhough it still comes form the same project.

I LIKE VARIETY, LOVE IT! Besides everyone is too much into the same thing and I get tired of it. That's also why I made MySpace StepMix in the first place to do music I LIKE TO STEP TO! I hate fan bases after awhile it gets awkward. So I try to pull variety which is UNBELIEVABLY HARD TO DO.

I LIKE INTERESTING, not BORING like SOME simfilers. I want it to be noticable but not expected, because it will get WAY to easy.
Thanks for commenting on sync, I had one REALLY bad comment and I was TEED OFF about it. I'm still updating it and putting Part 1, 2, and 3s to some of them also.
