"It's pronounced See-OH-Zee"
I've done a good setup last year in my school in Southwest Florida (I'm now an alumni because I was class of 2005) involving Stepmania. This setup had a computer that maintains a solid 60 Hz with no drops, even with screen filters originated from DDR X and a 480p background movie. The sound utilized JWIN's older home theater. Despite the age, this home theater was good enough to provide explosive 5.1 audio on the computer. A projector that supports 480p via VGA cables is sufficent, and still looks crisp enough to see what's going on and makes even BGAs on 480p look nice.

Regards to the build, it's going to be a bit tempting to use sm-ssc or Aldo's build, but Aldo's is still buggy, and sm-ssc I can't turn fail off when the option, hide song options, is on, and mods are set. I don't want an immediate fail to players in the school new to the core of the game. As such, I'll still use 3.9 PLUS Redux for now due to stability and the SuperNOVA 2/X scoring system for now. Theme-wise, I may do a toss-up between Sillybear's X2 theme, or Cyberiastyle 6 - I just can't decide yet. Cyb6 is near-perfect, and I haven't tested X2 to see if this theme is stable.

The school has the metal pads since 2007. Not the best pads, but they respond very well that getting more Marvelouses than anything is a cinch.

I'll make some updates along the way during next week to see how this turns out. If I'm lucky, I might post a few on YouTube in the future. If not, that's okay.

If you have used Takuya's X theme, Silly Bear's X2 theme isn't a world apart. I would use the X2 as the interface has less elements on it and would be easier for a new or beginner player to navigate

So song list wise, how are you organizing it? Will you be having different categories present, or will you compile it like a CS version of DDR and have colour coded wheel sections?

I always prefer to use StepMania 4.0 basic theme with some graphic mods to match the event, a customized song selection limited to the event, and most importantly LAN connectivity for up to 16 players at once (that makes the biggest difference between a gimmicky setup and an impressive event), you get lots of competitiveness that way and fewer lines, people get to play MUCH more often, some people end up staying at my booth the entire time and ignore the rest of the booths.

Just curious dark. Does your school have DDR as part of the PE Curriculum?

Right now I, myself is currently working on getting SM to my school so when they have family fun and fitness night or have DDR in the PE Curriculum they will be able to have more song selection and not have to worry about swapping mixes to play a different set of songs.

Not exactly. It's just used just for Spirit Week in the school as of now, as well as the Senior Lock-in where the graduating students of the year spend the night in the gym.

It's sorted in DDR Versions (including my third-party mix, which is mostly complete), and due to 3.9 PLUS features it will be sorted nicely. I'm trying to get a good library that the X AC setlist used, and even include some X2 US CS (Kimono Princess, roppongi EVOLVED for example).

@hellrazor: If I had the computers to pull off the LAN party, I would consider this as well, but the time to invest in building at least 14 metal pads is of some concern. Plus, even with this thread, I would need experience in power tools. Maybe if I get to the Technical Center near me I can figure that out.

Make some custom courses. Also make some for those that know how to play the game. Force them to play the courses, and watch them fail. Evil Puppy

"It's pronounced See-OH-Zee"
So three days out of five has passed, and there are a couple surprising players. I've encountered a player who is an Asian native (and a fan of VOCALOID) who passed SABER WING S-Standard with a B-rank (SN2/X scoring system), and then breaking the record by over 100,000 points to get an A. He used DDR S on the iPod Touch to memorize the charts and then went for broke. He did an attempt to do S-Heavy and failed it.

I've also demonstrated smooooch despite it being a beta (Heavy and Challenge only on Singles), and used t7r's VANESSA (X2 steps aren't complete of course). Rock to Infinity (t7r for now, may step it later as an expansion) was also added, but because of the blistering difficulty, no one has passed it on S-Beginner and S-Light yet. Sandstorm was also played a few times, but the most common played track was Don't Trust Me under my charts because of the low difficulty.

So far, so good. Only two days left in the week.
