Greetings everyone, Shinji16 / Piano Man here. I'm proud to announce that I'm finally launching what will be the first of many IIDX score attack tournaments! They will always be free to enter, and yes, have prize support! I'm hoping that this event will encourage people to come to my location often, with a secondary goal of fundraising for machine support and helping to cover the cost for either a DDR machine or a DJ Max Technika machine! But more on that later…

Starting from now until December 5th I will have an open score attack on two courses with six categories (outlined after the rules), with top three finishers in each being invited back for a tournament at the end of December, with a tentative date of Wednesday December 29th. Even if you are just getting started in IIDX, don't worry! There is a course consisting of 1's and 2's, and with a three month time period for qualifying, even newcomers have a chance to get involved. Also, everytime you come to visit will give you an entry into a raffle that I'll be holding the day of the tournament; check the raffle section for details.

THE TOURNAMENT RULES

There is no cost/fee to enter. If you wish to enter, I need you to reply in this thread with the 6 character highscore name you will be using (aka your DJ name). Also, when you come over to play, I need you to let me know who you are (obviously I'll meet and greet, but I want to try and put a face with each person's name. I also need you to reply with the classes you'll be entering. If you are just starting out, you are limited to just the beginner class, which is a custom course of 1's and 2's. If you are not, you may enter into one of the 7 key categories (N H A) and one of the two 14 key categories (N H).

Once you're registered, just play! I'll be keeping track of the high scores on the machine, and posting the current leaders here. I'll also be resetting the scores on the machine on a weekly basis, as to avoid them being filled with multiple entries from the same person. I highly recommend getting a photo or screenshot (my machine supports USB screenshots) in addition to leaving a highscore on the machine.

After the 5th, I will close any further qualifying and announce who will be taking part in the tournament. For the tournament, everyone playing will have a 2 song warm up (a Free mode play) before playing the course. While winners will be decided, prizes will be awarded at the end of the event.

In the event there are ties, the higher number of flashing greats will be used. If there is a perfect tie, a random song will be selected as a tie breaker, with the lower qualifier going first. In the event that anyone is caught sandbagging / playing below their difficulty, I will have no qualms permanently banning you from my location. Once again, sandbagging = perma-ban. You've been warned.

THE RAFFLE

Whether you're already a seasoned DJ, or just starting out, the biggest goal I have for this event is to try and encourage people coming on a regular basis. So, in addition to having the "Beginner" category in the tournament, I will also be doing a raffle based on how often you visit! Up to 4 times a month (or once per week basically) if you visit and donate towards the machines, you'll be entered into a raffle. After the tournament, I'll be raffling off several prizes. How many depends on how many participants I have, donations received, and so on.

If you qualified and were in the tournament, you will be excluded from the raffle since you'll already have won something. You do not need to be present to win; upon meeting you I'll make sure to take down contact info of some kind.

PRIZES / DONATING

I'm hoping to have cash prize support for the tournament for all three positions in each category, and gift cards as raffle prizes. The two main factors behind prizes are how many people show up and how much I can pull out of pocket. If we have a large amount of donations, I may pull from them no more than 10% of what was donated between now and the tourney.

A reminder on donations: with the exception of the possible 10% for prize support (only if needed), I can tell you 100% of the donations go towards to the machines and nothing else. They have their own separate checking and debit card so when I'm ordering supplies/parts, none of my finances get mixed in.

FUNDRAISING

For this event I have two goals: trying to get people to come on a regular basis, but I'm also trying to fundraise for a new machine. While donations have covered maintenance of the machines I currently have, I'm hoping to get another machine, either DJ Max Technika or a DDR machine. I'm hoping that for these machine that the community that comes to my house could fundraise and cover 1/4th, the cost of the machine, not including shipping. Please see the FAQ about this for more info.

F.A.Q

What are playing on? Do I need to bring a controller?

No need for controllers. You'll be playing on this:

This sounds great, and I want to come over! How do we arrange this?

Please reference this thread. We have an open door policy; we are open to have guests any time as long as we know you're coming. This is for two reasons, the first being we want to make sure someone will be home to let you in! It is technically a private residence, so unless we're home, the doors will be locked and such. The other is if you are needing to stay the night. I have no problem if people have driven long distance and then crashing, but I need to know in at least 3 days in advance if you need to spend the night, no exceptions. I need to know how many people might be sleeping over at any one point, as space is a commodity in the house.

How much does it cost to play the games? What should I donate?

My machines are always on free play, and they always will be. I will NEVER charge for games, period. I do, however, greatly encourage you to donate, as that is how the money for machine upkeep is made. Typically people come over for several hours at a time, so depending on how much you play, I usually recommend a $5 to $10 donation, based on how long you were over and how much you played. Also, while we have soda available, and don't mind having the fridge open, we do ask if you drink soda chipping a buck or two to cover the cost. Otherwise, out of pocket, I wind up paying $40+ a month on just soda.

So you're hoping that my donations will cover a machine you're buying that will legally be yours? What gives?!

Keep in mind that while the donations cover parts/sensors/etc for the machines, I still paid for the machines in full, the electric bill to run them, food and drinks that are consumed while people are here, not to mention I'm also putting an expansion on the house to fir new machines, all of which is out of my pocket. Depending on the feedback from the community, for the next machine I was hoping that community would help contribute to part of the cost. Also, I vow that any machine that was purchased with the help of donations from people like you will always be completely free to play. If I open an arcade someday, the "community" machines will stay back at my house and will be free to anyone.

If you have any other questions, please post them here. If you're looking to come over, please mention in this thread that you're interested in coming, but leave the specific details to emails / PMs and so on. Differently said, post the hype, leave personal details private.
Take care and be safe!

Not only should you NE players support and visit him out I think we should try and shoot for a regional Z-I-v IIDX Score Challenge. I know IIDX machines of any style is pretty much a rarity for most people if not even close to possible but I think that would be something that would be pretty awesome to try out.

Only one way to find out! If you're traveling long distance, I have no qualms putting you up for a few days (the location is my house) but I just need to know in advance.

I am all for that. Perhaps a thread in the IIDX board is called for?
