I'm not really a fan of this, the psp just doesn't lend itself too well for these kind of games that use so many buttons, at the end it's nothing more than a thumb mash-fest. DDR is basically the only music game I can honestly enjoy without its original peripheral.

So hang on:

Left Trigger
Up, Down, Left, Right (Only two combinations without opposites)
Triangle, Cross, Square, Circle
Right Trigger

1 + 2 + 4 + 1 = 8 keys maximum.

It's 9-keys :

1 - L Trigger
2 - Left
3 - Up/Down
4 - Right
5 - Square
6 - Triangle
7 - X
8 - Circle
9 - R Trigger

DJ Max on PSP is arguably better than the original game, and it's fun as hell BECAUSE it's a mash-fest. They did a really good job of squeezing the songs into the 4 and 6-button modes, so it's has all the keysounds of the original, but it's much more accessible to pick up and play.

I don't think this will be as good as DJ Max, unless they condense the notecharts into fewer keys, though. 9 Just seems a bit weird, since they already have to change some of the charts, so that keys 2 and 4 aren't ever required at the same time.

Yeah Tyma, I'm saying the maximum number of keys you can hit at once is 8. With that setup, if you had a chord that was 2+3+4, you can't hit it, cos you can only hit maximum of two keys at the d-pad.

I think they'll re-map specific combinations to other combinations. For example, every 4-button press becomes [L Trigger + R Trigger + a d-pad button + a face button].

Although it'll be great if they DON'T remap the keys, and various people destroy their PSPs, by trying to mash all 4 face buttons, the d-pad, and one of the trigger buttons, at once! Big Grin

That's no fun. I've had that trouble when playing pop'n music on the PS2 with a DualShock controller, multiple d-pad presses are painful. Tongue

Have you played DJMax Portable Sense, though? That pretty much nailed the concept of a portable music game. 4-button mode almost makes it seem like the entire game genre was created for the PSP, or the PSP was created for music games.

We're not on about DJ MAX though, we're talking about how KONAMI is gonna tackle this 9-key problem.

Personally, I don't think it's the best idea for pop'n music to be on the PSP.

Ridiculous sheet of plastic that you wrap around the PSP, and pay $50 for.

I had the Gameboy version with the massive plastic sheet that you wrap around the gameboy, and it made the game at least 3 times harder than just pressing the D-Pad, or randomly pressing the D-Pad.

Depending on the reason of the discontinuity of pop'n music for PS2, maybe it didn't sold well anymore.

I love the idea of having a portable version of pop 'n, hell, something Bemani for a change. I also think it won't sell too well because we all know the PSP scene is plagued with pirating and what not.
