I've been playing since the middle of 2003, with what I think was a 7th style machine, which then got updated to IIDX RED later that same year. From then on, I've played each AC style, as my arcade upgraded the styles ASAP. In hindsight, I'm really fortunate in me being an American arcade player. (Thank you TGA!)

"IIDX hates me" |
I feel lame... I've been playing IIDX since 2004, when a friend of mine got his hands on a 7th Style CS. Even though it's been more than 4 years I can barely scratch the skin of Level 8 and only 2 AAA's in history. My sense of rhythm is almost nonexistent.

-paranoid-: sense of rhythm is probably a good thing, but you don't really need it. I play only visually and I can play 8s and I get AAAs from time to time on easier stuff. What I need are high speeds/sudden+
I'm trying to get some sense of rhythm. After four years of playing DDR I should be able to at least get some basics...but still I'm usually terrible off.

While rhythm is a large factor, I agree that it's not required. I've been playing piano for nearly two decades now, and that only carried me up to 5s and 6s on 7 key, and I had to completely start from scratch for 14 key. I honestly view IIDX as an instrument, given the skill and practice needed.

When people ask, I usually say "the closest I am from playing any instrument is play IIDX".
Rhythm is more for the precision (AAA plox), to get those hi-level songs what I needed is individual finger skill. I normally miss a lot when they throw patterns with 3-4 white and black notes at the same time or fast scales, which is the case of most level 8+ musics, specially on hyper. (is it just me or the level 8-9 hypers are more difficult than 8-9 anothers?)
PS- I'm nothing without hi-speed.

playing IIDX is something that becomes a reflex. You see a note and you just hit it automatically. You need finger speed, fingering, enough strength in your fingers/hands/arms
IIDX is as well pretty accurate and forces you to play as a machine if you get what I mean.
That might be disadvantage but as well an advantage. As I see it anyone can play IIDX and his/her lack of sense of rhythm won't show that much.
Playing the piano is different though. You are the one that plays it and it's not automatic. You may follow notes but you are not forced to play exactly as a machine. it's up to you. And well the fact that you don't understand or can't reproduce a rhythm shows here. (even singing requires a sense of rhythm, I can stay on key but I can't sing exactly when I'm supposed to).
Anyway I don't have a sense of rhythm and at my 4-5th grade (of musical academy) I was often yelled at and tapped on the back. The professors imagined me playing romantic music (schubert, schumann, chopin) ... but soon found out that I just can't express any emotion or manage the rhythm somehow. that's why I was given bach, beethoven and debussy pieces later on. with these I did not really have such problems. it was usually speed and strength that I lacked. I was invited to play in concerts, TV and for the radio. (I was too afraid of playing in public that this kind of ended my piano lessons altogether...). Anyway I'm still capable of playing "difficult" stuff somehow...but if you let me play something considered easy, you will find out that I have major problems with rhythm
and expression.
IIDX? Well, my lack of rhythm and being incapable of hearing when you are supposed to press a note shows when I want to PA (well get as many flashing greats as I want to). In order to play IIDX I need to see the notes overlap with the targets and I need that the system is accurate on that. If I hit the note on the target and I get JGreat I'm fine. But let me play on offsync system and I just can't play. People who hear it in the music know when to hit the note, I simply don't. And if I find it in the song I immediately lose it again. Because I just don't understand the rhythm or I'll lose it somewhere on the way.
---------------------------
oh I wish ...if I could progress in playing the piano as in any other music game it would be awesome..... I could play whatever I would want. *dreamy*
---------------------------
ad those 8-9s.
I play primarily on normal/hyper. I haven't played much 9s on another except Yoshida-san that I can think of and winning eleven and there was one more 9 on another that I passed. All those songs where much easier for me than some hyper 8 I played. on hyper it's more about the speed on single notes streams and two note chords streams. in another songs it seems more like more difficult patterns to read and play. chords with some notes in between, weird rhythms etc, but usually slower paced songs. (at least this applies to all 8 and 9 I cleared on another). you will need to learn both in order to progress (me as well but I don't really feel like playing tens, it's torture for my hands and fingers)

I know about that, like there's a stream of notes, I can barely see, then my hand just do some stuff and there, didn't even brake the combo. It's funny, actually, when you realize it happened.
I tried to learn guitar once, then piano, than just keyboard, none really developed... I can read some music sheets, but never play anything. So I just stick to IIDX
DJT has some really easy 9's on another, but some nasty hypers. Got my 3rd AAA (Claiomh Solais [n]), I'm just so proud =~

No, seriously lol. I can pass some 5's...meh. This game's gonna take a while. I love 3rd Style CS, I'm into the older songs because many of them were crossovers into DDR, which I've played for 8 years.

I've been playing Beatmania for AGES! I remember playing the 5 Key version when my friend had brought it home from his trip (from Japan) on the PSX. I've played on and off for ages. I was REALLY into the IIDX from 4th-10th...After that I kinda got older and was not feeling where the series was heading. I came back for Gold....

I've only been playing since about 2007, except I've been playing so on and off so much that I keep on getting a little bit better than when I last gave up and stopping to start all over again. Going pretty constant now, so hopefully my game will keep getting better for once.

Started with GOLD AC. Will probably end with it as well. But I'm not one to judge that.
been playing for 4-no- 5 Months. Fortunate enough to clear 8 12*s in such a short period of time.
(Still has no CS. Sigh)

I started in March 2003, with 6th Style CS. Played for a couple months after 7th Style CS came out, then got into Pop'n Music CS with 9 sometime around September 2004 and eventually forgot about IIDX for a while. Then I picked up IIDX again in summer of 2007 and have been playing since.
So it's been 6 1/2 years and I still can't clear any 12's. Been stuck at 7th dan for about two years now, too, although I've gone from barely scraping by on the 7th Dan course to being able to keep my gauge up fairly well.

8-Dan may just be the biggest wall in all of IIDX (except maybe 10-Dan). 8-Dan usually consists of some of the most annoying 10s and some easier but annoying 11s with the occasional Innocent Walls [H] or gigadelic [H]. It took me 10 months of playing IIDX to beat my first 11 and 10 more months to clear all of the 8-dans on the CS styles I had (9th to DJ Troopers at the time, with DJ Troopers as the last one). It's been only 3 months since then and I've cleared 5 out of the 8 9-dans I have access to (most of which were cleared before beating DJT 8-dan).
8-Dan is simply made to be incredibly annoying, and it's shown by the songs they chose to put in it (Mendes before Ubertreffen, Broadbanded, So Fabulous, Rakuen, Max 300, rainbow rainbow, V2, Kakumei, Get On Beat Wild Style, etc.).
From what I know (not 7th/8th), 9th and Red have some of the easiest 8-dans, while Gold and definitely DJ Troopers have the hardest 8-dans.

First Started way back in 9th Style CS. Then moved on to the later styles, then bought past styles as a novelty to see what I missed. Going on 2 /12 years now. Finally overcomed the frustration that is "Autoscratch". Now scratching is second nature to me and I can pass another 9's and quite a few another 10's. I'm glad I can finally play IIDX the correct way without being booed off the game Played my first arcade IIDX at Tokyo Game Action, back when IIDX DistorteD was still new to the arcade scene. TGA was the best arcade ever, it had a whole room dedicated to everything Bemani, and it will be sorely missed

I started January of 2009.
Beat my first 10 in June. Beat my first 11 in the same month, only at the end of it. Currently a 8th/9th Dan player and haven't gotten close to beating a 12 yet. D:

Any tips on gigadelic [H] specifically, then? Just started playing on the 9th of this month. I got the USA beatmania bundle and GAWD was I not enjoying the game in the slightest. Awful song list and it felt out of sync, but today I got the Empress 2 disk in the mail today and WOW did I have a blast. I can go as high as level 7 but I'm getting C/D letter grades on that level. Y&Co is dead or alive =
