Have you tried Blender yet? It's what I've been using to make the 3DTextura movies (the rings and colorful tunnel for instance), it's free, and once you follow a tutorial, you'll figure the basics out.
I think I might have tried Blender before, but then I realized I'm better off working on 2D

But on the other hand being able to make custom renders for backgrounds does sound pretty damn cool

Honestly, an entire 1/3rd of the BG movies I have, I'd never be able to pull off in 2D alone. Specifically, the Max2 license movies. Sure, there are a couple of those that could be possible in 2D and still look great, but honestly, I like being exact and true to the movies unless I feel like otherwise.

I am the only one (edit: that I know of) who has the motive and power to try reproducing ANY of the DDRMAX-Extreme background movies, let alone these kind. I've looked everywhere to see if these were stock, tried looking for the designer's email, asked Konami, no luck. The original designer, I've concluded she's vanished from the media. However, the fragments she left call to me. They've interested me since day 1 (going all the way back to sometime in 2004). The various patterns, interesting tidbits, and relationships with the movies feel like a "path" left for whoever wants to play with the movies. I'm not even sure myself how I am able to figure out the algorithms to the movies.

A work in progress of the "balls" in Tunnel4.

These 84 movies also feel like they have a "character" inside of them. Tunnel4 and Cross2 give off Crashbox vibes. Tunnel5 and Wheel3 give off Rolie Polie Olie vibes. Chain1 and Spiral3 give off Gigglebone Gang vibes (specifically the monkey character). Kaliedoscope8 and Fabric1 look like a background clip from Rock n Learn. Disco4 reminded me of a Hastings store when I first saw it. And there are many others. And I feel like the only way to extract these characters is to reproduce all 84 of these movies. Determine the features that make them. For instance, Pikachu gives off a japanese chibi vibe, is related to lightning/electric, and is very shy and closed in the first episode, until he loosens up to Ash in the following episodes. Nemo gives off an orange-white vibe, is related to underwater, and has to deal with being overprotected by his father and then getting separated from him in a dentist's aquarium.

So, to reiterate, I am the only one who has the power and motive to make these movies, and I do it on a budget of $0, at home, and I'm not even 18 years old yet. Don't be intimidated you can't create stuff as a kid because adults are better at it, I can name at least 4 other examples that are created by people primarily under 18 and are fun to watch/play. Start as early as you want, and don't get discouraged if you have a wobbly start. You'll get better as you go along.

Unlike Look at Us, these 6 videos had a unique recreational process (well, 2 of them had the same one, but they're obvious which ones). I even included the stripes, pixels, and swirl textures used in Disco1/Tunnel4 in the HD pack so you can see the effort and careful examination I've put into these textures.

I think this deserves a story. This song is actually an important origin point of this project. I started this idea all the way back in 2012.... all of them were mediocre. But I still took note of numerous details.

After some traumatizing drama in 2013, and then MORE stress inducing fights, I split from the fandom I was in back then and went on to study how to animate without the influence of that specific fandom. (I gave it one more try in 2014, but split for good after 5 months) CGI was slowly starting to interest me.... but Anime Studio couldn't quite do it. At least, not great CGI, anyway. But even still, I was practically obsessed over it and tried to stretch Anime Studio's capabilities, copying mainly Rolie Polie Olie at the time.

I will also say here I am a closeted Happy Tree Friends fan. This might start looking irrelevant, but it's somehow started this whole thing, the aspect of having a subtle like for it. Anyway, I complete ignored that fact until August 2013, where I suddenly began getting a "crush" on the show... but it was so secretive. I was too scared to look at a single episode. However, I began compiling animation puppets for the characters. I only got as far as 8 characters (I can make more, though). My favorites at the time were the "mascots", Cuddles, Giggles, Toothy, Petunia. However, eventually, Giggles was swatched with Flaky.

So how is this relevant? When September hit, I began having the idea to see how the 4 characters would do in a computer generated world... so 2D flash characters in a 3D environment. Set to FANTASY - LOCKOUT. And amongst the world, I wanted to have little tidbits to the 3DTextura movies, including Cyber1, Disco1, Tunnel5, Tunnel4, and Cyber2. But alas, it really was only a fantasy......

...

Tunnel5.......... I was very curious to see if I could pull it off in Anime Studio (I did before, but it looked subpar and glitchy). Unfortunately, it still didn't look perfect... but at the time, it was mind blowing. Who knows how much further I could get?

During it's production, I wanted to see how Pentagon1 would look now that I was trying to follow a new style. Then Rotation2 and Lens1 followed. And at some point, I finally learned how to use Blender 2.67.

http://orig10.deviantart.net/779a/f/2015/258/a/5/0019_by_rusty_raccoon_735-d99pb5a.png

Things were looking good. I thought I was actually getting somewhere here.

After realizing Blender 2.67 was able to efficiently make Kaliedoscope12, remaking the 3DTextura movies was immediately an official project. Mid-October, it then expanded to cover all 600 of the DDRMAX-Extreme movies many of us know.

As time passed, I gradually began to figure out all of the algorithms used in many of the movies, figure out the "convention" for the movies (camera focal length, global lighting instead of flexible lighting, no shadows), and eventually, I have successfully managed to remake half of the movies in glorious HD (and even another 16 in a "beta" stage). A spark hit me last week (and it's still going) that had me successfully remaster/fix at least one movie a day. Three of the movies wouldn't be near finished without it.

Okay, onto the actual movies.

http://orig05.deviantart.net/6c76/f/2015/258/8/8/tire_by_rusty_raccoon_735-d99p7h8.png

This movie is easy and unambiguous. The oldest "finalized" movie of the 6, in November 4th, 2014. I did not apply the "standard" 3DTextura settings to it, however, I think it looks fine the way it is. It is Fantasy's banner mascot, so I consider it the second most important.

http://orig00.deviantart.net/d780/f/2015/258/7/f/triangles_by_rusty_raccoon_735-d99p7jm.pnghttp://orig10.deviantart.net/1b7f/f/2015/258/a/7/diamonds_by_rusty_raccoon_735-d99p7i3.png

These two movies are related, so obviously they get remastered together. They are also really easy. With the help of Ring3, I realized that these shape tunnels give off a glow effect, and the glow effect is produced by stacking two of the to-be-glowing items on top of each other and blurring the bottom layer. These were finalized in August 29th, 2015 (but were still usable 22 months before that).

The processes and backstories start getting much more complex here.

http://orig15.deviantart.net/80d8/f/2015/258/b/8/pushy_by_rusty_raccoon_735-d99p7hv.png

This movie is the most important one, being featured in the song's background (and, interestingly enough, another song's background AND banner). This was the first "official" one my 2013 project started with. Pentagon1, however, was the first one finished in both my 2012 attempts and 2013-2015 attempts. Sadly, this movie was not at its full potential. I changed it up a tiny bit 3 weeks later, but STILL no good. I, at some time, wrote it off as a beta movie (along with another movie, Tunnel2) because the movie just...wasn't at its potential. And it was left at that for a long time.... I tried remaking it again in 2014, and then AGAIN in 2015, but Blender wasn't co-operating. So I just left it at that for a long time.

I have a list that I run through random.org to point me to what 3DTextura movie I should try remaking next. What I do is randomize it, pay attention to what lands on the bottom instead of the top, remove the bottom one, and repeat until there's only 2 items (you know the rest). Doing this longer process helps me anticipate what it might land on. I listened to it successfully 4 times.

The list then;

Okay, so at some point, it pointed towards ghj. Tunnel5's official name is jsghja. So I just thought "Oh, boy...". Especially because I tried remaking it 3 days beforehand (alongside analyzing Egg1), but it just...didn't work. I looked at my draft .blend file for it, began fiddling around with the camera/tunnel placement, and rendered one of the frames. And then suddenly, I don't know what happened, but the movie suddenly looked...good. In fact, it looked 90% perfect. I don't know where it came from, but I somehow finished the movie in Blender, got it 90%, and didn't realize it. Finally, it was finished on September 7th, 2015. I'm impressed I got this one, especially because I pulled an allnighter during the day it was finished and was able to function correctly.

http://orig01.deviantart.net/4762/f/2015/258/4/f/contraption_by_rusty_raccoon_735-d99p7im.png

This movie is really fun. It amplifies the quirky/geometric/cyber/swirly vibe a bunch of the movies have at the same time. I admit, though, I took a cheap shortcut for this one. Specifically, the sticks. Those sticks share a texture with 5 other movies (two of them recolored). The texture are some pixels with more pixels inside of them. However, the texture is too tedious to perfectly recreate, the algorithm is unknown, and I found out it's actually too laggy for Anime Studio. So I simply recolored Tunnel1's pixel texture.

http://pre07.deviantart.net/f00a/th/pre/f/2015/258/4/2/wakkaw_000032_by_rusty_raccoon_735-d99pg1w.pnghttp://orig13.deviantart.net/acc8/f/2015/258/b/9/pixels_by_rusty_raccoon_735-d99pgn0.png

....however, the cheap trick strikingly looks perfect for Tunnel4, almost as if I misidentified the texture to begin with. (I did trace the official "sticks" back to Pills1, then to Amoeba4, so I DID identify it correclty.)

On the other hand, the balls took a lot of looking after and taught me that some 3DTextura patterns have efficient tricks to them and aren't just a swirly mess.

August 22nd, 2015. I was pulling ANOTHER allnighter due to horribly messed up waking hours. A few days prior, I found some guy's stock animations, and some of them look strikingly similar to the 3DTextura textures (but many of them are too chaotic to exactly fit). Along the way, I found this stock animation.

http://orig13.deviantart.net/fc83/f/2015/258/4/7/rings_by_rusty_raccoon_735-d99pjih.png

This resembles a pattern on 2 textures... one of them Tunnel4's ball texture.

I couldn't quite figure this one out for a while. Now, you may be thinking "It's just circles". Well, it is. The clincher, though, is that I couldn't get the dots in the areas the rings intersect.

http://orig01.deviantart.net/f8bd/f/2015/258/d/c/intersect_by_rusty_raccoon_735-d99pkx2.png

And don't forget the rings shrink inwards, so it needs to be animated.

The answer turned out to be easy. Just mask the center ring with the other 4 rings. After that, I had to take advantage of Anime Studio's "layer blending" feature to have the graphic have flexible colors while still being animated. (There are actually 2 sets of rings, one is thinner and fades out quicker. So, then the time came to start distorting the graphic.

http://orig10.deviantart.net/897c/f/2015/258/7/0/distort_by_rusty_raccoon_735-d99pn26.png

All I had to do after this was add an animated "swirl" effect to the texture. I actually found out that the left layer is not animated. Instead, the entire assembled image changes size, which also contributes to how the center ring goes out of whack in the middle of the movie.

http://orig12.deviantart.net/34b5/f/2015/258/3/d/frame_000001_by_rusty_raccoon_735-d99pnwr.png

So that's pretty much it. This texture itself is a proud accomplishment, let alone the whole movie. (I sadly, however, made a mistake. The camera passes one triangle too many. D:)

I really hope people see this movie in the same way I did. It was all a matter of being, like, 6 years old, having specifically DDR Extreme (The Reflex), the movies surrounding it, and the gift after being persistent for 3 years. I completed it yesterday (September 14th, 2015).

Finally, one you all might be wondering about.

http://orig02.deviantart.net/2805/f/2015/258/5/5/animals_by_rusty_raccoon_735-d99p7j9.png

The stuff I posted at the beginning of this story wasn't irrelevant. There's a reason I think Flaky and Toothy should be in here, and it lies in the stuff I posted above. I started progress on this movie going all the way back to early October 2013. I didn't directly have the idea of having Flaky and Toothy in the movie, but I got the idea for them + Petunia and Cuddles a month later. The problem was the Jukebox couldn't be efficiently mapped to the armature, so I kinda lost motive. The first truly "advanced" 3DTextura movie I made was Disco3. This is the exact copy I made from 2013 that I still have;

http://orig14.deviantart.net/a5e9/f/2015/258/5/a/betaspeakers_by_rusty_raccoon_735-d99ppqu.png

This still kinda looks decent for my standards today, but it looks revolutionary for my standards then.

Disco1 and another movie, Tunnel1 were put off for a year (but Tunnel1 STILL isn't finished!!!!). Meanwhile, I decided that the official HTF style for the character wasn't going to blend well with the movie. I wanted something more geometric. Jason Sadler's style of the characters that appeared in Ski Patrol looked like it would do the trick. I created animation puppets for the four characters that resembled that style, but not TOO much (legs are slightly taller, the characters aren't even close to animated similarly to the official style). I posted previews for all four of them and then watched how they'd do on Disco3's set.

http://orig06.deviantart.net/e2c6/f/2015/258/7/b/animals2_by_rusty_raccoon_735-d99pu3y.png

Subpar, I know. But it wasn't official.

Along the way, I decided to finalize Tunnel1's texture. I had made a mockup that I used in 3 movies, but it was a "placeholder". The real deal took me 14 days to finish. I almost gave up on everything along the way, but I pulled through. There were 105 pixels. It was tedious, but each pixel I did got me closer, and closer... There's still 100 to go... Now 80... After getting those ones done, there are 30... 20.... 10... 6... 4... (gasp) I GOT IT!! And now those 3 movies ready to look better than ever.

Sometime after that, I finally decided it was time to finish Disco1. Chaos (unfortunately) was happening in the meantime, so this was kind of a stress reliever. I redid the jukebox from scratch. I set everything else up within 2 days (misidentifying the texture on the sparks shooters along the way). I actually found out I couldn't pack all 4 into the animation without disrupting the camera motion, so I cut Cuddles and Petunia. It was finished on November 17th, 2014. I released the "alpha" version in my Otasa Revolution simfile from ZIV Simfile Shuffle Contest 2014.

At some point, I began to notice the movie was not at its potential. The animation for the characters was floaty, the jukebox was too "thin" at the bottom, and it was still only a beta movie. It wasn't satisfying the The overhaul began on April 23, 2015 with Flaky. I had to take a break due to vacationing, but when I came back. I managed to finish both Flaky and Toothy's animations, and then overhauled the jukebox AGAIN. Eventually, after screwing up on the camera, I finally got the movie nearly perfect.

I had doubts if people want to use the movie because of the two unexpected characters, but I'm proud of the movie. I had to render it 4 times, taking hours each time (despite my efforts to reduce the effort). It gives the movie less of the illusion it's trippy and more that it's really a hightech stage. I think DDR + HTF has a tiny bit of potential, it just needs to be executed JUUUST right. And I came up with a reasonable excuse explained here, that even the jukebox is being controlled by a third character who "gets in tune" with the speaker. Notice that Flaky and Toothy replace the mentioned sparks shooters (half because I couldn't get the correct textures used on them, by the time I came up with that clever substitution for Tunnel4, the movie was already rendered). I really hope you can understand why I want to keep this silly idea, this is the only movie out of 600 that will have this trait.

So yeah. Please give me props for this one, I've spent a lot of time on these movies. I'm not sure which song I should do next, all of the current songs remaining have monstrously complex roadblocks.

Tried to do a "shiny text" effect that I always see... not sure if I was successful though. Dead

For example:

For any image, right click > open image in new tab for full-res..
Reverse chronological order. All except Две деньги (that Russian song) are from last year.
All of these are just pictures (with applied filters for some) slapped with text, but finding the right picture is already half the battle so yeah.
Come to think of it, I rarely make graphics from scratch. I think only Phantom Vibration, Rooftop Run, and D2; even then, I have reference pictures for two of them and stole a phone for the other.

It's been a while since I made custom banners. Here are a few DDR banner remakes I made:
