With forum games it's a bit different since those are just for fun. I don't care about bumping them.

A month isn't that bad a bump honestly. If you were necro-ing something from like half a year ago that would be different, and even then if you contribute something to the discussion it'll still be fine.

It's not that you were being rude (at least not on here); it's that people on this site don't know how to rate for shit. And it's a shame. I don't think you should be penalized for making a thread that wasn't well-thought-out. But I'm clearly not the majority.

In relation to the Raw Thrills topic, since it got needlessly Locked, it's coincidentally not that farfetched at all, seeing as Raw Thrills has actually, at one point, teamed with Konami to make a Wheel of Fortune arcade machine. Now a full-on merge might not work, but a similar combined effort would have at least been worth the consideration. (EDIT: Maybe not. Apparently Konami was affiliated with Betson, which is also Raw Thrills. That was all said there, but it's no big deal. I didn't know and it was informatively helpful at least~)

Moving on, yeah. I think sometimes people in forums are just a bunch of cynical bastards. They'll not only mock someone's thoughts but down-rep them for the sake of satisfaction and self-righteousness. The user rating system seems good in theory and maybe sometimes in practice, but I think other times like this reveal the unfortunate injustice in it, fueling the "internet never forgets" mentality to a level way beyond its intent.

Oh well, hopefully things fix themselves out where you won't feel so patronized like that, but if not, just don't take any of their shit and move forward. My condolences for what you had to deal with~

Michael, some people just have a tendency to give a -5 to everyone they slightly disagree with on anything. It's immature as hell and obviously it sucks, but that's the downside of having a rating system. No matter what, some people are still going to misuse it. I felt like people were being unnecessarily rude to you in that Raw Thrills thread so I gave you some positive points. You didn't do anything wrong and no one should have made you feel like you were.

Also keep in mind that inactive users who had ratings on either you or any other users gets their ratings 'revoked' after being inactive in the site for one year(?), so sometimes if you've never posted anything on the site but mainly lurked or kept a 'good behavior' yet you suddenly see your points drop for probably no real reason, this is why.

Nowadays I just give people a -1 or + them depending on how well they behave on the forums, though even giving ratings is something I rarely do now, the thread was lacking a lot more research into that subject, but a -5 for a slight flib like that shouldn't be tolerated and glorified. We all make those one threads where we don't really have the knowledge and facts checked before turning it into a good discussion.

As for what I said in the thread, it still stands. My optimism and hope for some revival of DDR in the USA left after DDR II didn't get a good amount of sales, X2 arcades started popping up but weren't justifiably making arcades money, and DDR Dance Wars was canceled not even a year into the games life cycle. I still enjoy playing the game, but with how Konami has been handling things recently speaks volume for the future of not just DDR, but BEMANI as a whole.

On a serious note, yes, that thread was a bad idea, but I have no clue why people felt the need to go any further than a -2, maybe even a -1.

Would limiting the rating privileges for users with low ratings help? i.e. People with under 50pts can only rate from -3 to +3.

Ideally people with high ratings should know when and when not to use the +5/-5 ratings. Unfortunately this does penalise those that use it properly that are currently stuck on low ratings so I'm not 100% sure.

Probably would alleviate some of the problems, though I honestly wouldn't be too surprised if further research reflects that it's actually more veteran users giving out -5s like there's no tomorrow, given the amount of cliques that spring up not just on this site, but on many other forums.
