Eurovision Song Contest 2024 Z-I-v Thread

We're going to Sweden this year!
It's more than a month to go, so I thought I'd do this again!
What do you think will happen in this contest?

Which countries should make it to the grand final?
There are more than 25 countries taking part in each of the 2 semi finals, but as always, only 10 in each will qualify. However, the other 5 countries including the UK and excluding Ukraine do not compete in any of the Semi Finals, as they have already qualified for the Grand Final. The question is: which countries should qualify in each of the 2 semi finals? Even though Ukraine isn't a automatic Qualifier, you can include it if you wish. Remember we decide what countries make it in the 1st semi final, not the 2nd semi final like we last did.

How will you be watching?
In the UK, both semi finals and the Grand Final will air as usual on BBC ONE at 8pm and the grand final could send us to Monday. Commentary is included if you're watching in the UK and other countries will provide their own commentary. The official live stream on Youtube, has no commentary. Will you watch it that way, and will you stick to the usual way?

What performance are you looking forward to?
What performance are you most excited for in this contest? Are you excited for our entry, or do you have a country participating that should be a real winner like last year's Finland entry?

How will the UK fare?
This time Olly Alexander is our entry for this contest, so how do you think he will do? Where in the running order will he be in the grand final? In which position do you think our entry will place in the grand final and how many points in total will he score? Will we do better this year or end up badly like we were last year (remember we were 25th last year!)?

Who should win the contest?
As is the way in this contest, 50% of the votes come from the National Juries, meaning the other 50% comes from the entire European Union, the UK & Australia. Which country do you think should win and what will be the final Top 5?

I'm not an european but im a big fan of the Eurovison contest so i don't know if my opinion means something but i wanna try anyways haha

Which countries should make it to the grand final?
- For me this year is FULL of amazing songs so im sure is not gonna be a easy contest for the public who votes. For the first grup i think Ukrain, Serbia, Lithuania, Portugal and Luxembourg will gonna pass to the grand finale because are huge favorites even i don't see some of those song that good or catchy but for me Croatia, Findland and Irland deservs it for bein really original entries. Irland is my favorite for the first group because of that, is a reallynew entry having a goth style, Croatia is a rock song but with the twist of talk about the life of countryside that makes the culturalpart that most of the eurovision fans likes and Findland yeah... is kinda camp but for me the "Ignitor D" eurobeat style is really cool.

- The second group is the bigger one because almost all my favorites are there but for me Austri, Malta, Greece, Czechia, San Marino, Norway, Armenia, Switzerland and Denmark are 9 of my 10 finalist BUT Netherlands is my favorite and honestly one of the biggest possible winners along Italy and France.(but for me is kinda boring, o wow another dramatic ballade from France... groundbreaking) but Netherlands became a viral song even out of Europ and for me is nostalgic hit, is like when i was 7 during the 90's listening to the old DDR Dancemania songs.

How will you be watching?
- For me there's only two options, watching online or wait to the performance be uploaded in YT.

What performance are you looking forward to?
- The UK song is good but what they show about the performance dosen't seem so good specially because the coreography is too sexual witch is ironic because thats why people say about spain having two guys showing buttcheeks and the word "zorra" (btw it means wh*re not vixen) and the MV of Austria for shoging shirtless dudes and a more erotic moments but the performance of UKseems to literaly simulate s*x LOL.
- Me personally wanna see Irland, Austria, Australia, Spain and Luxembourg's performances because some of then really needs to improve the stage performance and other like Irland and Austria can do a really amazing show if they take adventage of the unicness of theyr songs.

How will the UK fare?
- I think they do right, definetly not bottom material but neither top 5 material specially compared to another countries with the same music category (i know thats not a thing in eurovision but this year it kinda is, for example 3 euro dance songs, the rock ones, andin this case the male electronic pop) that seems to be more popular between the public like Sweden and Lithuania.

Who should win the contest?
- Well last year was really controvertialfor the final results because so many people says that the winer was the judges's favorite and the second plase was the fans favorite and i think this year... it could be same because france is one of the biggest judges favorite but Netherlands, Italy and Greece are the biggest names between the public, me personaly should be spain for the messeg of the song, Europapa for the smart idea of make such a Happy and energetic song with a really depressing and personal lyrics, Austria, Irland and Italy for the orinality and catchy songs in theyr own way, basicly i can see any of my top 5 as a potential winner

As an extra question that i had it can be problematic so i don't think is a good idea to ask but yeah, those are my predictions for this year, honestly one of the best eurovions in a long time good luck to everyone and the bes song wins.

For me what UK is laking is originality an this year people wants a risky/original winner, thats why Austria, Netherlands, spain and even Sweden are big fanfavorites. Is not wrong present a pop mainstream song but it has to be entretaining.

Most of the entries are more likely to get 0 points than win. What a weird stat to chase.

Anyway, top 3's Switzerland, Italy and Croatia. I don't know what order, but that's your three.

Politics aside, unironically, I never understood why non-European countries were allowed to participate in Eurovision. Israel shouldn't be allowed in the contest, just as they never should have allowed Australia.

It's technically not a European contest, it's across the European Broadcasting Union. This includes the Middle East and North Africa. Morocco entered once in 1980, Lebanon BEARLY entered in 2005, and Kazakhstan entered the Junior Eurovision for a bit. Australia is a bit different, in 2015 they were given an invite as a 60th birthday treat, as they've been broadcasting the contest since the 70s. The plan was to make a 'guest contestant' slot, but that fell through since they got China to broadcast the contest...and then revoked it when they found out China censored the stream.

As much of a troublesome process this whole ordeal has been, especially for me since I've been reporting about the goings-on for a swedish ESC news site, it felt somehow right that it was Switzerland won. In more ways than one. (It was my #1 pre-show as well)

Oh, we all do. For the first time in the 20 years I've followed the show (as well as 6 years reporting on it), I never felt as exhausted as I was right before the final. In broad strokes I guess I can only thank the juries!
