After playing other BEMANI games the past few years at Round1, I just can't help but wonder why DDR seems to be the step-headed red child. In almost every aspect, it's worse than the other games.
-Speed mods are locked to multiples of 0.25
-Mod menu in general is absolutely tiny compared to other games
-Sync issues out the ass; no other modern BEMANI game has sync issues, but in DDR, at least 25% the songs are off sync by some amount
-Very basic settings like FAST/SLOW and lane brightness are locked behind a paywall
-The 20th anniversary new cab is literally just a repainted Dancerush cab that is worse than the white cab in some ways
-Lots of songs are heinously under-charted, like Crimson Gate
-Annoying announcer/crowd sounds with no way to disable or quiet them
-Pads still use ancient digital sensor technology instead of analog FSRs, and practically NEED to be modded in order to function well at high levels of play
Just...why? Is DDR really that unpopular in Japan, compared to the other BEMANI games? I don't understand why so many features and improvements in other BEMANI games are completely absent from DDR.

Aaron in Japan might have insight as to why. But at least the game is still supported. It isn't suffering the same fate as Konami's prolific IPs like MGS, Contra, Castlevania, etc... It could be worse.

I don't think there's a single answer to this question, really. I think the team behind DDR is just lazy.

I think it's safe to say it's a combination of multiple things and both "lazy" and "not paid enough for this garbage" are on the board.

In Japan, what game is most played out of the BEMANI games?
DDR?
IIDX?
Pop n?
DRS?(lol)
SDVX?
Gita?
Im naming ones here thats still supported by e-amuse. Im generally curious. I still think the team for DDR is just out right lazy/dont care. Look at past DDR games for USA and the iOS versions of them. Hell even DDR V.

I think this youtube video describes more of these problems and in depth.

If they were lazy or didn’t care they would be fired and replaced with a team that cared and would put in the work. That’s what happens to people who don’t deliver what the boss wants, which leads to the shitty conclusion that DDR is actually what Konami wants it to be right now and that really sucks.DDR?
