Monstrous Turtles! [Braeden47]
Okay, what the hell was that Challenge chart? This had so many BS ""hard for the sake of hard"" moments thrown in. On a song that already had a ridiculously long 16th stream at 206 BPM. Just stepping a monstrous (no pun intended) 16th stream would have been hard enough, but then you insist on throwing in a random jump, random 32nd bursts, random 24ths bursts, all of which are completely 100% artificial and don't do the song any justice whatsoever. I wasn't expecting anything good out of this file; it's Monstrous Turtles! after all. It's a classic video game remix but inevitably every simfile rendition is bound to have the same super long 16th stream. It's been done to death and it's not even that interesting outside of being really hard. But this is far worse than what I expected. Just... no. No no no. No... NO.
On the bright side, it's not Jumper.

Oh my god, I need to play this chart immediately. See how astonishing this is for myself. 206 BPM 32nds? And I can actually ALMOST full combo Jumper (closest I got was one good).
I really advise people who make things past 16-17 footers to see if they can get a full combo on their own chart before releasing. I made sure I could with TRICKL4SH 220 and werewolf howls. (even though that one's kinda understepped) before releasing them. If you can't get a full combo (or worse, even pass the song), then it's probably a REALLY bad idea to release it to a simfile contest.

Lunu Dehi has been cut to about 1:40. I shortened the intro and removed the second verse and chorus, fading out in the start of the second verse. It's now much easier to step, which is important because I don't have the time to just step it right away, as I did with Sega Rally. It'll probably be a Saturday finish if all goes well, and most likely will be released alongside Lost In Thoughts All Alone.

Darn it, I made a charting mistake at the very end of Stardust Vox and I somehow only just now noticed. The 8th arrow before the jump should be on the right, the jump should be down-right, and the freeze after the jump should be on the left (m81-2).
Oh well

Anyone know how to make the song length in Game Mode the actual length? I put an arrow way past where the music stopped in Edit Mode and now it constantly says the song is 2:44 long.

Did you try reloading songs/courses? That usually does the trick.

I'd rather this week not be too slow. Lunu Dehi has been severely shortened, from 2:29 to 1:43. I have finished Beginner and Basic, and am considering making a difficult Challenge chart with rolls.
When it's finished (tomorrow almost certainly) it will be posted in this post if not much else happens between now and then.

I've been meaning to ask this. Did you get permission to modify the cut? Because when I asked I was told I wasn't allowed to, just saying. When it's finished (tomorrow almost certainly) it will be posted in this post if not much else happens between now and then.

I'm pretty sure that vincentw ultimately allowed recuts (and cut modifications), with the only restriction being:
Quote: vincentw
the recut must be based on the song provided only. No combining with other songs, not even its remixes, or in case of the song being a remix or a mashup, the original song(s).
Also, Lisek, according to what I have read, also had cut out some parts from his Round A Submission, Black Light Machine.Post #1254 · Posted at 2016-02-05 05:54:53am 8.3 years ago

I think vincentw was initially 'confused' when you requested to cut Muenzuka set 04, then by the time he decided to allow recuts, you were already finished with the simfile.

I decided to comb through the thread to find the post where this issue was finally solidified (or so it seems)
Uhh, sorry for the unclear rules, guys. To be honest, when chewi asked that question, I asked Silverhawke, since I personally don't know what to do. He said "no, what's given is what you get" so I assumed that this rule applies on previous contests as well…
Has this happened before, like in previous contests?
Oh, I found a thing from SS2013:
I guess recuts are allowed, then. However:
- please remember that working your way through a cut is part of the challenge.
- the recut must be based on the song provided only. No combining with other songs, not even its remixes, or in case of the song being a remix or a mashup, the original song(s).
chewi may submit again. I'm sorry for not researching before.

Quote: AeronPeryton
And if the cut submitted is fine but we still want to cut the song differently?
Quote: Silverhawke
I'll allow that but not too often. Since IMO part of the challenge is to work your way through whatever you get.
Further down the page:Quote: Silverhawke
4. If you feel the need to re-cut it, notify me (in this thread). Also mention whether you need the file or you'll find another one yourself, so if needed I will fetch it from the submitter.

Wait, so is this part of the rules no longer relevant?
Quote
1. Please only cut when you think it's absolutely necessary (e.g.: offsync). You're supposed to work with what you're given in the first place.

It's long, but unlike TSUBAKI, it's repetitive. Not to mention, it almost goes over the time limit. So I cut out the second verse and faded it out at 1:43. It's confirmed legal, as of round C with Jordan.

Sure, the cut may be on-sync, but in my opinion, 2:20 is...already a REALLY annoying time to step, let alone 2:29. I've been guilty of cuts that score between that range, but they had quite a bit of variety (especially Seaside Heaven 3000), which is why I made those cuts as long as they are. If the song was a bit repetitive, yeah, going over 2 minutes wouldn't be a good idea. Having a cut beyond 2 minutes and a few seconds is risky and might end up not being stepped at all if the stepper is extremely busy. Especially if it's a higher end BPM (about 160 or more). Heck, there are songs here that I'm kinda sure the stepper would have veto'd had they not been so SHORT (Silly Ho, Beautiful Beachfront Properties). Both were about 60-70 seconds long.
On a similar note, I almost got in trouble with one of my cuts once. Lisek complained about my original For Sure cut and vincentw asked me to fix it. Apparently somehow I managed to mess up the syncing and audio quality to what was already a 2:25 cut, and I can see how that's annoying, problems with the cut AND having to step 2:25 (or, I believe, ~180 measures (~70 x 3)). I immediately switched to .ogg, rerecorded the song, shortened it, and VERY VERY SLIGHTLY changed the speed so that it's a definite BPM (126.50) because I didn't know what the actual one was (it was 126-127), but doing this had me sure it was synced this time instead of guessing. The modified speed is barely noticeable.
Anyway, I shortened it even after fixing the other problems because I was afraid that Lisek would end up rejecting it just because of its sheer length. It's similar to what I did with Bokura no 16 bit wars; While the song was okay, I used my veto because I wasn't up to step the alarming number of measures I noticed I'd have to step (143 for each difficulty) *, and I realized I was sort of being a hypocrite with my For Sure cut. It had at least 2-3 repeat parts. In the end, all went well and the entry ended up winning, but my point is that unless the song CALLS for being over 2:10, you should probably come up with a better cut for it. I think The Legendary DJXYZ trimming his song is fine.
*In retrospect, maybe halving the BPM would've made it not seem like a big job. When I got Hitoribocchi, I halved the BPM to 106 so it would feel like it's 46 measures long instead of 91, which I felt was quite steep. Once I was done with the charts, I returned it normal speed of 212. While this might have something to do with why it ended up as understepped as it did (no 16ths whatsoever), this was how I made the charts, at 106 BPM.
