We're plotting on completely redoing the score system from scratch to be more modular than what we got now. Your precious SN2 scoring system may be closer than you think.

You're doing something wrong. This has never happened to me, and I highly doubt it happens to anyone else.
It even happened to me. Here's how it happened:-First, a simfile is made in 3.9+ Redux in only one difficulty. (e.g. if you make a "groove radar" special chart of a song)
- next, when the simfile is saved, only one difficulty is shown on the music selection (e.g. only "challenge" is shown in 3.9+ Redux)
- when loaded to ssc, there are two things that happen:
if autogen steps is on:
-other difficulties and something like HARD EDIT will appear on the difficulty list
If autogen steps is off:
-sm-ssc will crash.
That's what he meant.
I still can't reproduce this bug. I have countless files created in 3.9+ with only one difficulty (Heavy) because I write those charts first, or leave them incomplete when I give up, when I try to step random songs, and I never got any odd new Edit charts, or any crashes. There's also the Sync simfile with only a Beginner chart, and no autogen on that either (although I didn't create it, I did last save in 3.9+).
Only time sm-ssc has crashed for me is when I broke if/else syntax in metrics.ini.
I have one X2 simfile (Pierce the Sky) with "Medium Edit", but that's because there are TWO Medium charts in my SM file...... it's not something it autogenerated, it was already in the file. That means I made a mistake when copying/pasting updated charts from the work thread, but it's not a bug with sm-ssc.
If several of you get this bug and I don't, maybe I'm doing something wrong?

AutoSetStyle may be making an autogen from a solo chart, which is the nearest it can go in terms of generating something worth playing, or it could be pulling from another style's edit..
I'd like to see a screenshot just to see whats going on

sm-ssc v1.1 has been released. This was release was mainly produced by the rest of SSC and sm-ssc Team during AJ's burnout from the project.
You can grab it from the usual place, our Google Code project page.
We hope you enjoy this release.

No, it's because a bunch of other people have done it (not just you).

I'd like to know as well, since I can't find anything... What did change in 1.1? Or was it just a bugfix release?

Huh this version of sm-ssc seems to work on my computer now Although you know when a computer is terrible when it cannot even run the default theme at full frames
Good none the less.

For the longest time, StepMania was designed with this last group in mind, trying to emulate the arcade experience. Nearly everywhere I go in the StepMania community, I see people treating arcade machines as deities, and expecting StepMania to do the same. I feel that the focus on arcade stuff has held StepMania back for far too long. (The SMMAX theme doesn't help either, which is why I don't currently consider myself a part of the "normal" StepMania development team.)

I'd love to see this go in the direction SM4 was going in, and cater towards people who play Stepmania on home mats, with large music collections. These are just ideas, but this is how I see a "home version" of Stepmania being favorable to one that just tries to emulate DDR's features.
Tyma's Stepmania Wet Dreams :
-
Song reviews
SM4 had this crazy idea that after you play a simfile, you can press a button on the keyboard to "rate" the song, on a scale of 1-5. The ratings you give to every song are stored in a cache file somewhere, and let you do neat things things like sort the songlist according to songs you like, or filter low-rated songs out of the songwheel.
This was the one thing I was most excited about in SM4, and it never got implemented.. For some reason, it *DID* show up in Rock Band 3, though, with the exact same functionality as promised in Stepmania.
-
Marathon Modes That Don't Suck
I want to play Stepmania for 30 minutes a day, and in that 30 minutes, I want it to throw random songs at me, without throwing anything stupid. I want to give it a set of logical arguments, such as :
If one of the random songs in the course has over has over 500 steps, skip it.
I'm playing on 2.5 speed, but if a random song is over 170 BPM, play it on C400 instead.
I'm sure the course format is capable of doing this. An in-game UI which just lets you set random arguments (ala the Player Options screen) would just be perfect.
-
Pass Lamps
Stepmania needs pass lamps on default theme. This sucks so many hours of obsess-compulsive enjoyment from my life, it's unbearable. It's so simple, and yet adds so much to the home experience.
-
Track specific Perfect / Great / Good numbers for each song, not just a grade
Because this adds another few hundred hours of fun, playing songs over and over, to try and eek out a better and better score. I want to know which songs I'm close to AAAing, and which to work towards.
-
On-Fly Profile Switching
Playing for Pass Lamps (Or pretty letters to the right of the song title) is a huge part of playing Stepmania-based games at home. Stepmania Profiles are awesome, and it's cool that my housemate and I can track our own scores on each song. The only thing that would be better is if we could hit a key to switch our profiles from the song select screen, for when we're taking turns playing songs (or "credits").

StepMania already does this. Look at your stats.xml file.
For my part, I hope to see SuperNOVA2 scoring completed for sm-ssc 1.2, whether that involves the removal of Subtractive,Average,et.al. scoring or whether someone tells me how to catch those cases in the source.

Just a question, what could cause all songs to suddenly not be recognised? I got one game, with a few songs from my In The Groove folder, and now it can't see any songs whatsoever when I start the game. They're all in the correct format, which is what has me stumped. I've tried deleting all profiles and reinstalling all songs in several ways, but nothing is coming out.

You can try deleting your CACHE folders, otherwise backup everything and uninstall StepMania-SSC and re-install StepMania-SSC.Post #80 · Posted at 2011-01-02 08:39:46pm 13.4 years ago

Only problem is, I'm having trouble locating those folders. They aren't in the main folders when installed on Ubuntu or Debian, and I can't find where it put the .ini files either. A search brings nothing except cursing
Well, a reinstall fixes the problem, it loads all the songs in if they're there on first load up, but if I exit and load again..POOF! No songs and it's not able to reload them. Still can't find where it put the cache file either, what's the exact name of it?
