It also makes perfect sense the edit stuff isn't public considering if for example there was a bug that meant someone loaded an edit and it just froze the game or something nonsensical, it's all of a sudden a problem involving arcades as well so yeah, kinda something that has to be kept to private machines!
This. I'm pretty sure in the early days of ITG customs you could fairly easily just crash shit.
Yeah I think there was a cab in London that crashed all the time because some random shop owner just put random mod files on it without realising they would break. Granted none of that stuff was official and it was only R21/23 cabs that supported custom songs "Officially" and they were at least stable!
I gotta say though it really does feel like a massive bitch slap at Konami who have dug their heels into all sorts of online functionality for years (Especially in Europe) only for a significantly smaller company to come by and basically say "Look at all this shit you can do with just a QR code/basic internet connection and a mobile app". Genuinely, it's brilliant to see and I don't think people mention it enough what a great job has been done making this just in general.

Yeah, SMX just completely beats the shit out of DDR in so many aspects. It's going to be interesting seeing what Konami does now that SMX is becoming more common and easily accessible than white/gold DDR cabs in the US.

It looks like more setups are even slowly popping up in Japan which is something I didn't expect at all considering the game's music direction is very western

The first two songs are definitely two of the best songs put in the game in a long time, fire update

Lawsuits are unlikely, since SMX specifically did things to avoid stepping on any patent-toes. Hence why there's no "step zone" at the top of the screen, since Konami has that patented.
From what I've heard, the SMX team specifically talked to Konami and basically asked what things they needed to change/avoid in order to not get sued.

Then again if there's any company I would pick as "most likely to go back on their word" it's the king of employee abuse lmao

First one that comes to mind for me, lol.

Curious if there's a way to trip the embeds here, as sharing those links on other platforms autogenerated a cool image.
Hmm, looks like you can steal the embed image via just opening on a desktop browser and copying the image URL.

I love it, but good luck getting any decent functionality on my tiny nugget phone For some reason I can't place left arrows on the lower half or so of the screen whilst I have the 'place' button pressed?

Here's my Cartoon Heroes recreation. Throwing in some center panels, rolls, etc to "SMXify" it.

I find in general, any recreations tend to be "SMXifyed". So far I haven't seen any purely 4 panel recreations.

This custom edit functionality is blowing my mind. Seriously. I used to love making charts for StepMania and DDR Ultramix back in the day and then for ITG 2. But using a touchscreen is more intuitive than I thought it would be, whoever designed this GUI/UX is a genius.
Only thing I would suggest is maybe a "Back to the top" button placed inside the three dots. Would be so much quicker than scrolling to the top manually (although the quick scroll bar on the right is nice).
2005 zeioIIDX could never have imagined creating charts like this lol. Being able to share them, view them, "download" them, etc...all from your phone/tablet. It's crazy. Super convenient and concise. Bravo to the team for this one and for even wanting to embrace custom stuff from the community in the first place.
One of the biggest reasons I love this is because I can finally create custom training charts to help my daughter with certain patterns and techniques. She's finally breaking into Wilds and has already cleared five 19s. I've already made her a chart that focuses on crossovers. Now I'm making her charts that focus on gallops, triplets, stream bursts, and offbeat notes.
Training charts is something I used to do for people years ago with StepMania when my buddy had a DDR SuperNOVA cab in his living room and another friend owned an ITG 2 dedicab. They were both okay players but still needed help with certain things so I had the idea to "train" them with practice charts.
BTW, the interface changes are subtle but look great. Did timing change? I feel like I am having an easier time scoring better but maybe it's a placebo effect of the interface change.
Also, @LightningXCE, there's something that's been bugging me forever with Quick Play. The left and right arrows for adjusting difficulty while playing are very wonky. If you tap the actual arrows, nothing happens. You have to tap slightly to the side of them, nearly off the actual arrows. Is that something that can be fixed? I generally just drag my finger across the numbers and scroll that way but it would be much nicer to have the tap function work more accurately.
One last thing: has there ever been any thought given to allowing customized Quick Play settings? Specifically, forcing the difficulty to change every (x) amount of songs? I warm-up every session by playing 30 minutes of Quick Play and I generally start at Easy 7 and move up by one after clearing two songs. It would be sweet to have that process automated! That's probably asking too much but figured I'd at least bring it up, I'm unsure how many other people have asked about a feature like this. I've been envisioning a function like with pyramid reps where you can set Quick Play to increase difficulty by any amount after playing a certain amount of songs, then you can choose to have it reach a target difficulty and even decide whether it will then decrease in difficulty to go back down...kinda like setting a starting point, a peak, and then an end point. I know SMX started off as being geared and marketed towards fitness centers, something like that would've been awesome to implement within Quick Play!

Quickplay needs an overhaul - it's on the list but is unfortunately significantly waaaaaay de-prioritized because of it only being usable by home users (technically anywhere, but it requires free play enabled as well as unlimited songs). It needs some love and we've got some ideas to make it better for sure. I really do want to see being able to set options or things like playlists and whatnot, but there's some work to be done.
The hitbox thing you are mentioning is because of the dragging section, and if your finger moves at all it starts a drag. The hitboxes themselves are quite over the space, but it does need improvement and is absolutely on the list for when there aren't a bunch of other priorities, as I am personally always looking for ways to improve it, haha.
Glad you're enjoying it! Grats to your daughter as well, as I imagine that's fun to watch!

StepManiaX Content Update #40 New Songs!
I wanted to post a review of my experience with SMX in this thread, but that can wait. Basically, I have to commute to the Montréal or Toronto areas to play SMX. I recommend the latter more because there are more machines, and they are of higher quality.
I'm glad that SMX finally has a DDR-inspired revival again, after over 1½ years! "Night in Motion" by Cubic 22 is an excellent choice!
