"Stupid humans" |
Plenty of good files this week yo. Here are some rushed reviews.
Aphrodisiac – It seems like you’re trying to follow the strings in the beginning so I recommend removing 8.000, 12.000, 16.000, and 20.000. I don’t see why there are jumps on 70.000 and 71.000 either, nothing in the music really goes with them that I can hear. Same with 86.000, ect. The only other thing that I don’t really like are the ambiguous steps, steps that don’t particularly go with either foot, possibly leading the player into a doublestep. Such an example is at 156.000 and the tap after it, where the player may not know which foot to hit the tap with after the jump. Other than those this chart looks kinda fun, interesting rhythms.
Be Quiet – To begin, change the jumps on 3.000 and 7.000, those make the player either doublestep or jump backwards. On that note, this chart is filled with doublesteps. Pay attention to what feet the player hits the arrows with and try to make sure that they can alternate left foot-right foot without hitting two different arrows with the same foot twice in a row, this chart requires a lot of awkward shuffling. Starting a little before M5, the taps don’t accurately match the rhythms. Lots of synths (?) were randomly ignored while others were stepped, and this was done inconsistently, making the chart hard to follow. Starting at M13, you use jumps inconsistently. If you have a jump on 52.000, you should have one on 52.750 because these are the same sounds. I also recommend jumps on the crashes on 96.000, 98.000, ect.
Begin – If you’re trying to follow the percussion and the synth in the beginning, shouldn’t the jump on 47.250 be taps on 47.000 and 47.250 instead? This could be wrong. The one thing that really bothered me in this chart was the sudden on the instruments being followed, and this would happen sometimes mid-verse, such as at M20. Overall though, you followed the music well. M32-M41 is fantastic.
Breakfast with K.K – Cute chart, good patterning. Not sure why 95.000 doesn’t have a tap though.
Candii – For the most part this is a neat chart that followed the music in a way that made the chart interesting, but why would you include 16th forced doublesteps on a freeze, those would be really hard to bracket unless your pad was really good >.>
Classic Green Acres – Good chart but remove the steps at 37.250, 37.500, and maybe everything from 198.500 to 199.999… 328.000 as well
Crazy Beautiful Life – Nothing in this bothered me, good work.
Electro peaceful – 32.000 starts what’s basically a doublestep. In the jump, the left foot will be on the down arrow so they will hit that the same way, leading to a doublestep at 34.000. Doublestep at 46.000 as well. I like the jacks starting at M17 until 102.000, when the pitch of the instrument is not the same on the two up taps. Pay attention to when the jacks are on two similar sounds and two dissimilar sounds. Starting at M41 you have a lot of taps that don’t follow anything in the music, such as on 160.750. I like the jumps that you use after that part, but then there should probably be some more on 260.000 and all similar percussion.
End of World – Double step on 13.500, and 21.500. The rest of this doesn’t really follow the music in any way that I can discern, and I’m not even sure that I’m playing the complete file since there are like, 6 edits. When stepping, try to follow the music and be consistent about it, and try to make sure that player can alternate the usage of their feet (left right left right) and not be forced to hit two different arrows with the same foot twice in a row. Mokou explained this earlier in the thread as well.
Energize – I noticed a lot of missing taps, such as on 68.500 and 69.250. Next there are your gallops (like the UR-RU patterns and similar things). I think that they definitely fit in the song, but that you used them inconsistently. Sometimes you used them, sometimes you didn’t, and I couldn’t see any pattern to when you decided to use them. I also don’t recommend using 32nds in this song. They present a really high difficulty spike. Using rolls sparingly might serve this song better. Lastly, remove that jump at the end, it’s hard to hit and the song already ended by that time.
Fascination (Obsession) – No tap at 17.750. Taps on 37.000, 37.250, ect. Be really careful of the arrow patterning you use, because there are lots of doublesteps, and make sure that you’re hitting notes in the music that exist consistently and not leaving in anything extraneous. The steps can use some work, but you really had some great ideas and many of them really matched the atmosphere of the chart, which I liked.
I’m A Slave 4 U – No complaints here.
Ikareru Ooki na Shirori Uma –hfskitwjioeubq3
In Front of Me – I’d put a jump on 96.000. I’m having trouble figuring out what’s going on in M24-M28, since you didn’t put the 16ths vocals on 16ths but you also didn’t seem to be following the bass (?). You could have some taps on 116.250 and other similar notes if you want to follow the bass and the vocals. Good gfx I liked
Kioku – I’m seriously impressed right now
KOI WA CHAOS NO SHIMOENARI - … so that’s what my friend was cosplaying from… ANYWHO, this is excellent. That’s really all I have to say about it.
Let’s Sing – You had me at P*Light. The song starts rather earlier, I’d start the steps at M6 instead of M4. There are some missing taps near the beginning, such as 20.750 and 28.750, but I didn’t notice any later on. Nice job.
Mad Lovers – These graphics are really good. M5 and M7 could use jumps on the cymbals. M12 honestly bothers me. 45.000 and 45.500 are the same pitch and you use three unique taps. I say this because 46.500 and 47.000 are the same pitch, but you then use the same taps on 46.500 and 47.500. Perhaps 47.500 could be U or D? Freezes on 97.750 and similar 16ths would be cool. Overall this looks pretty great.
Mysterious Time – My OpenITG is totally not reading this so I can only judge the 9. Anyways, what I noticed is that you follow the vocals a lot, but that you sometimes step the percussion as well. 87.500 is present, yet 100.000 is not, making the flow kinda awkward to follow. The lack of anything at 128.000 is another example of missed percussion. Kinda similar to this is the lack of tap at 169.250 yet the presence of the tap at 170.750, or the lack of taps on the vocals at 229.500 and 230.000 despite the vocals stepped before them. Despite these things, this chart is pretty fun and it does not at all get boring.
Never Had a Dream Come True – To be blunt, the sync on this is way off by as many as 100 ms. Additionally, the steps were for the most part just fine, but what broke the flow of the steps was the manner in which you switched the instruments that you were following mid-verse. You went from synth to percussion to vocals and back within the same one or two stanzas, and the chart would flow better if you switched instruments only when entering different parts of the song, a part being typically the beginning of a chorus or the introduction of a new melody, which may happen every 8 measures. If you follow the synth and then follow those percussions for a stream, be sure to go back to synth and hit some of the other percussion. Following multiple instruments at the same time is great, but swiftly abandoning one for the other isn’t as great.
Old Town / Sunshine – Weird song, I swear I’ve heard the melody in an NND medley before. There were many sounds that you hit that were kinda really quiet, but you seemed to hit them consistently and the chart had more interesting steps as a result.
Onigo – rude crossovers
OrBiTal – Excellent
PARA X – I know that this is boss song-esque but even then doublesteps in a long 160 BPM stream is really awkward. Everything else is manageable. The BPM stuff is cool but imo you should include a tag in the SM to change the display BPM, perhaps #DISPLAYBPM:20:320;
Part of Your World – huh, I like this
PULSE LASER – Overall, this is a very nice 9. I do think that you use LRL and RLR patterns a bit too much, but that’s not that bad or anything.
Que Veux-Tu – Good patterning and use of jumps, all that I noticed was that some vocals near the beginning were unstepped while other taps didn’t go to anything. For example, there is an unstepped vocal on 31.750 while there’s no vocal on 28.750.
Raise This Barn – Doublestep at 49.750… or at 48.000. Same at 144.000. Extending the freeze down to these taps would fix them. That crossover in M44 is rather difficult and extended for this tempo. Other than these things, this is pretty good and it looks fun.
Schlagwerk – If you step 18.250 then it would make more sense to step the other gallops as well. I’m not sure what the 16ths at M12 are supposed to follow though. There is the percussion but you’re only stepping small portions of it. The way that you repeat patterns is pretty neat.
Streets of Gold – Gold is a color :T I recommend never starting a chart on an up or down arrow unless there’s a jump following it, starting off on the wrong foot leads to a doublestep. I don’t think that there’s any sound at 35.500 or 38.500, ect. I like how you put jumps on the crashes but then there’s are jumps like the one at 157.500, where there’s not much to really warrant a jump. I liked your use of 16ths, those fit the song really well.
Take Away the Colour – Ouch, should have saved this song haha. Once the rap starts, I think that the steps could have followed the vocals better. For example, 58.500 should actually be on 58.250 if you want to hit the vocal related to the ones after it. Tap at 135.500 and 219.500. The stop is a nice touch. I was going to question your use of freezes at the beginning but you step the 16ths later so nevermind.
The a la menthe - …so that’s what this song is. You did a good job of simplifying the rhythms. Doublesteps at 142.000 and 144.500 though… unless you actually want the player to hit those notes backward .-.
The Hero From Junes – This chart is great whenever you follow the trumpet. There were lots of taps, however, that didn’t go to the trumpet at all. The only thing that they could have been following was the percussion, but it was so steady that I couldn’t figure out why you stepped those percussion where you did. A random example is at 180.500 and 181.000.
Turii – Doublestep at 112.000, that would be an insanely difficult spin to full perfect combo. Same at 144.000. Move 279.500 to 280.000. Other than these things I like this chart.
Veratyr – I cannot figure out what you were following with many of these notes, I’m not hearing anything to match these 16ths and this goes on for more or less the entire song… The only exception is at M44, though there should be a tap at 173.750. Great graphics nonetheless.
VOLTEXES – Not a fan of some of the twists and doublesteps (such as 185.000) on the 4-note trills but other than that this is excellent.
Worldend Dominator – The hold on 82.000 should be extended down to 83.500 I think… that’s all I’ve got. Nice 8.

I managed to procrastinate all week and only finished the doubles for my entry. Very good chance I won't get all the singles/graphics/lyrics done before the new theme is announced.
I'll do my best next week to choose a song that is a little less difficult to make 7-9 charts for xD

enjoy a rushed file by yours truly. (i was thinking against submitting this tbh)
background hastily snatched off pixiv.
cuz pandy ain't around - voting for 4th week, 16ths Week has ended. (votes are x-ref'd from Tel's tally sheet)
Voting for Colors may begin.
Meanwhile, the theme for this week is
Every file you contributed to will count as an entry (and of course, one file must have at least two people working on it).
This means you can only contribute to two files in a way (charts/graphics/etc), so pick wisely.
song choices-wise though, it's basically free week
I might need Pandy to explain more, but that's the gist of it.

Yes the next theme is [ZIv Academy]!
Find a simfile artist and collaborate! You can collab by having different charts, singles/double charts, steps/graphics, and so on. Song choice is a free week. If you contributed in anyway it coulds as an entry and remember you only get 2 entries a week so choose wisely. Also it would be a good idea to say who did what for each simfile uploaded this week.
Have fun and ENJOY SCHOOL LIFE! *endless chain starts playing*
Also if anyone wants to collab with me I'll listen but I'll only pick one person because of 2 entries.

This works well for me, because I not going to have much time this week either.
I can definitely do graphics or music cuts for people, but I won't know until closer to Saturday if I can step anything.

Here's a ZIP for [Colors], go nuts.
Also, i'd be willing to contribute with stepcharts in a collab, I suppose I could do graphics if need be but dont expect anything amazing lol.

I'm willing to do
*Challenge Charts
*Easier difficulties for someone else's heavy chart
*Charts in general, with someone else doing graphics, cut
I'll step anything that's not totally unsteppable.
If anyone wants to make any of the following for these files:
In And Out of Love - Hixxy (lower difficulties, graphics, or doubles)
I Wanna See The Sun - DRC Project graphics, or doubles

*casually advertises myself*
If anyone is interested in co-stepping anything from this songlist or anything similar to any of those songs (or anything i've submitted throughout the contest), hmu.
I guess I can do music cuts/GFX too, but tbh I'd rather be a little more involved in stepping.

^ I would love to co-step Some Nights. I need to complete that one for my mainstream pack again, now that my old computer lost the file.
AeronPeryton, would you mind if I used your graphics for that one?

Sure
Even so, if ddrstepper doesn't want to collab with me (I can't blame him) I have graphics that you made for me already. *takes advantage*

BTW only one person in the collab has to vote next week for the collaboration simfile to avoid disqualification.
