Hello all!
I'm trying to play SM connected to an HDTV (since there's no way I can play with a pad looking at the laptop's screen), which has a lot of lag, but I don't know exactly how much and Google has failed me. My TV is an LG 42PJ350 and I'm currently using a Global Offset of -0.085, which feels pretty good, but I'm still getting way too many Greats (for example, on SisSig Basic I can consistently AAA it using the keyboard and my laptop screen (GO: 0.000), while on the TV I can't get below 15 Greats (GO: -0.085)). I tried to use the auto-sync feature, but it either tells me the deviation is too big, or it sets the GO at +0.050, which means I can't get Marvelous or Pefects to save my life...
Any help will be appreciated!

Im not 100% sure but the possible lag could be by:
1) Your PC Specs (CPU, RAM, GPU, etc).
2) By the connection/cable you are using to connect the HDTV to your laptop.
3) Your HDTV configuration (idk)..
I have played SM5 using two monitors (not TVs), Lag doesnt appears when I play using two monitors... Idk if because my PC Specs or because I uses Monitors instead HDTV...
Days ago i remember uses my HDTV to my PC and uses the SM5... not lag too, but I uses a Desktop PC and not a laptop...
Try to change the resolutions, graphics, maybe something works.

Computer monitors are much better in response times, especially with either DVI or display ports. I tried the same things on my Sharp Aquos with an HDMI cable and no matter what I do in SM5, there is some input delay. I haven't tested the input on my monitor which only has VGA and DVI so far though, but it is a 5ms response time, which is fine by 60Hz standards.

Some TVs are great computer monitors while some aren't so great. Was yours advertised as a monitor as well, or just a TV?
My Panasonic plasma TV is excellent for games (including old ones) and for my laptop.
Regarding autosync: if the adjustment is too big for autosync, try changing the offset manually until its close, then fine tune it with auto.

If the screen has a slow response time, you can also set the Visual Delay Seconds in the Graphics/Sound section of the main Stepmania option. If the configuration on that screen doesn't allow tuning it fine enough, you can edit it directly in Save/Preferences.ini.

Thanks everybody for the responses!
I ended up editing the ini manually until I got a (almost) perfect result, ended up with a Global Offset of -0.111.
I don't think I need to mess with the Visual Delay though, I'm told that plasmas have a fast response time...
@Musashi: Actually, we were told that the TV was kinda iffy for gaming, but it was hella cheap

Y'don't say? I brought my games to the store to personally test them on plasma TVs when I was choosing one. Which Panasonic model did you read about? Mine's a PZ65-850u from 2008
