I've played the first one, and it was much more than jump scares.
Honestly, you're afraid the entire goddamn game. The fear doesn't come from the jump scares, but from the knowledge that you're always five seconds away from one and you have to do everything in your power to prevent it. Just IMAGINE being in that situation.

I've only played the first 5NAF, but I didn't necessarily find it scary. I did think the atmosphere of the game was very stress-inducing and claustrophobic (not really a feeling of fear), and that's what I actually enjoyed about it. I can't speak for the other two games since I haven't played them but as a couple other people here have said, you'd be milking your idea too if it ended up being successful.

So all of our years of oppressed groaning from Konami is being heard to some degree by Jim Sterling as he lets out all of his steam on Konami as a whole, after the NYSE delisting and cancellation of Silent Hills/PT. I will say that despite his lack of knowledge in Bemani continuously getting screwed over, the premise he's getting at hits at Konami all the same. Take his clips of Naoki and Dance Masters with a grain of salt, though. I think he's just poking fun at Konami's lack of provision in preparing his colleagues for the conference more than anything. If it says anything about how well acclaimed this video is, Tak Fujji himself even tweeted about it.
Anyway, here's the video. I think we should try to boost awareness of Konami's incompetence with Bemani in the comment section, because why not? XD;

how about no? it's not about bemani. we got a network that was inevitably going to get shut down, it was 100% going to happen someday.
obviously konami neglects rhythm game players but it is because they don't make as much money as they used to.
don't let someone that has very little knowledge try to explain the situation about BEMANI players, let someone experienced in the community do it.

"obviously konami neglects rhythm game players"
I hope you're joking cuz this is the funniest shit I've read all week
yeah, Konami neglects rhythm game players. Boss On Parade, Replicant D-ignition, new GITADORA, PENDUAL, etc. - it's all because Konami neglects us.

Append that to 'obviously Konami neglects rhythm game players outside of Asia'.
Because now, they're neglecting EVERYONE outside of Asia.

They only do that because there's very little money to be made outside of Asia. In the end, they are a business, and they've got to make money, and the rhythm/dance game "scene" is pretty niche outside of Asia. Same for Gitadora and IIDX. It seems like Konami doesn't care about rhythm games in the Western world, but, like Anonywolf said, they're giving Asia all the nice things, because Asia gives them all the nice money.
/captainobvious, I know, but it still pretty much defines why we haven't seen a legitimate NA/EU DDR release since X2.
As for cancelling Silent Hills and the NYSE thing, well, I can't really make educated comments on that. I can call it silly and unfortunate, though, because that's what it is to me.

Oh, well, dang, I apologize. I thought that's what you were getting at when you mentioned the DDR events and new games. Sorry!

I was being sarcastic to what TBL was saying about Konami neglecting rhythm game players.
With all the content they've been giving us as of late, it's pretty ignorant to say that they're neglecting rhythm gamers.
Added rolly eyes to the original post to signify sarcasm.

Complaining about Konami not caring about their rhythm gamers while within the past 5 hours SDVX III machines are getting updates for them to play in pretty much every single open Round 1 location in the US.
Then again, they could just leave us at those games and that's it. Still hoping for them to bring over jubeat, Reflec beat, DDR, and Pop N' Music to Round 1's, buuuut that may not be for a long, long while.

They are the Japanese versions of the software. The exact same as Japan.

Regardless of the state in NA, the X2 release backfiring upon themselves in Europe was of their own making. A cab with severely cut corners for £10,000* is NOT going to sell when working EuroMixes are on sale for £1,500.* Some part of my brain thinks they tried to sell it for £20k, but that might have just been the US price in dollars. Anyone?
