How to you type a japanese song name in stepmania? I need to know this for a few simfiles

What I do is to open the .sm file with Notepad and type the Japanese title there (on the #TITLE: field). Then save the file with UTF-8 encoding.

I'm fairly sure this is the only way to do it

Sometimes StepMania doesn't have all of the characters in its default font. You can see when this happens in the edit screen. If you press Esc and go to "Edit Song Info", the unknown character will appear as a ? with a circle in it.
To account for this, you can put an alternate way of writing the song & artist names (usually a Romanization) in #TITLETRANSLIT, #ARTISTTRANSLIT, etc.
